    • The present invention relates to an optical element including a light guide, into which light from one or more light-emitting diodes in a light unit arranged at one end of the light guide is injected, and a reflector arranged at the other end of the light guide capable of reflecting light incident on the reflector. The light guide further includes a prismatic surface comprising a plurality of prisms, each prism being arranged at an angle to an axial direction of the light guide, for guiding the light emitted from the light unit towards the output end of the light guide. The present invention also relates to a light source including an optical element according to the present invention, the light source being arranged for retrofitting into a luminaire employing an incandescent light source.

    • The invention provides an isolated, novel steroid 5α-reductase enzyme termed SRD5AIII. The protein has an estimated molecular weight of 37 kDa and is capable of converting testosterone to dihydrotestosterone at a pH of about 7.0. Also provided is a method for identifying inhibitors of SRD5AIII by contacting SRD5AIII with a test compound and measuring the activity of the enzyme. A reduced activity relative to a control indicates that the test compound is an inhibitor of SRD5AIII. A method is also provided for detecting androgen stimulated prostate cancer or recurrent prostate cancer in an individual. The method comprises obtaining a prostate biopsy from an individual and determining the level of expression of SRD5AIII gene or protein relative to a normal control. An increased expression of SRD5AIII relative to the control is indicative of androgen stimulated prostate cancer or recurrent prostate cancer.

    • A mobile communication device is provided. The mobile communication device includes a processing unit, a battery unit, a solar cell unit, an electronic switch circuit and an analog to digital converter (ADC). In the mobile communication device, the solar cell unit receives a light and thus a luminance and transforms the luminance into an analog voltage. The ADC is configured to convert the analog voltage into a digital voltage. The processing unit is used to transmit a control voltage according to the digital voltage. In response to the control signal, the electronic switch circuit is controlled to turn the solar cell unit on or off and the solar cell unit provides all, a portion or none of a working current required for the processing unit according to the action of the electronic switch circuit. In addition, a luminance value may be generated according to the light received by the solar cell unit so that a user may be aware of the light quality of the ambient environment, thereby preventing himself/herself from reading under a poor light source environment thus protecting his/her eyesight from being damaged.
