    • A hydraulic control system for an automatic transmission of automotive vehicles is provided. The hydraulic control system includes a pressure source, a plurality of solenoid valves, and a plurality of directional control valves. Each solenoid valve selectively supplies and release hydraulic pressure to and from one of frictional element of a power train of the automatic transmission according to a given schedule of transmission operation for establishing a given gear ratio. The directional control valves are interposed between the frictional elements of the power train and the solenoid valves, respectively. Each of the directional control valves is responsive to input of the hydraulic pressure supplied from the pressure source through a preselected hydraulic line to assume first and second valve positions, the first valve position being to allow the hydraulic pressure to be directed to one of the frictional elements, the second valve position being to release the hydraulic pressure acting on one of the frictional element. Additionally, the hydraulic pressure to activate the frictional elements is reduced in pressure level temporarily upon supply thereto for absorbing mechanical shock caused by engagement of the frictional elements.

    • A swash-plate type compressor comprises a plurality of cylinder chambers parallel to each other, a shaft, a swash plate connected to the shaft for rotation therewith and for wobbling motion due to the rotation, and a plurality of pistons subject to wobbling motion of the swash plate for reciprocation within the respective cylinder chambers. The shaft and the swash plate are connected to each other through a slot formed in one of them and a pin provided on the other, so the swash plate can wobble. A position of a center of rotation of the swash plate is supported by a spool device movable in coaxial relation to the shaft. Displacement of the spool device causes the position of the center of rotation of the swash plate and an inclination thereof to be varied to vary a reciprocative stroke of each piston, thereby controlling discharge capacity of the compressor. The engaging slot has a section thereof between positions corresponding respectively to a maximum discharge capacity and an intermediate discharge capacity of the compressor, which section is formed into a nonlinear configuration in such a manner that an angle between a normal line of the slot and an axis of the shaft decreases at a position corresponding to a large discharge capacity of the compressor, thereby restraining an increase in inclined moment acting upon the swash plate due to a dead volume occurring in the working chamber on one side of the piston at a large capacity of the compressor.

    • A rotary compressor formed with an unloading port maintaining a working space in communication with a suction chamber and opened and closed by a valve, to vary the capacity of the compressor. The internal pressure of the working space is sensed in a compression stroke or this pressure and the pressure of a fluid drawn by suction are both sensed, so as to open and close the valve based on the sensed internal pressure of the working space or the pressure differential between the internal pressure of the working space and the pressure of the fluid drawn by suction, to give suitable hysteresis to the operation characteristics of the on-off valve to stabilize the operation of the on-off valve.
