    • A tube expanding device includes: a plurality of rollers each having a tapered portion whose diameter increases toward its front side; a cylindrical expander frame for freely rotatably holding the plurality of rollers on a concentric circle; a mandrel inserted in the expander frame so as to be freely slidable and rotatable relative to the expander frame, and having a tapered portion whose diameter decreases toward its front side, the tapered portion of the mandrel matching the tapered portion of each roller; a drive device coupled to the expander frame and rotating the expander frame; and a moving device for moving the mandrel forward and backward relative to the expander frame. By moving the mandrel forward relative to the expander frame, the tapered portion of the mandrel abuts on the tapered portions of the plurality of rollers and thereby expands a diameter of a circumscribed circle formed by the plurality of rollers.

If RGB grayscale data is expanded into band memory 105, if judging from intermediate code the image type is other than a bitmap, the pattern is solid or a binary pattern, and moreover RGB grayscale values are “00000000” (binary) or “11111111” (binary), simplified expansion into band memory of RGB grayscale data as gray data is performed. In other cases, the RGB grayscale data is expanded without modification into band memory 105. In the case of gray data, color conversion processing using a color correction table is not performed, but interpolated values of “00000000” and “11111111” are taken. Thereafter the data is compressed and output from the host computer 1 to a printing device 2, and printing is performed.

    • A host sends each page of image data to a page printer in band units and the page printer writes the received each band data into a reception buffer in DRAM by DMA and transfers the band data from the reception buffer to an image formation section made up of members. The host gets an available buffer capacity from the printer just before transmitting each band data, and transmits the band data only when the printer can receive the band data. In the printer, a CPU permits transfer DMA to be started after reception data as much as the data amount calculated based on the data reception speed and the transfer rate is stored in the buffer to prevent an underrun error from occurring. If an underrun error occurs, the CPU sets an error flag, and sends the error flag to the host just before the host starts transmitting each band data. When receiving the error flag, the host drops image resolution and resends the page data with the resolution dropped.
