    • The present invention relates to a method, a communication system and a Node-B (NB) in a communication system for distribution of downlink E-DCH power usage in a communication system. The system comprises at least one Node-B (NB) for enabling wireless communication with at least one user terminal (UE). The communication is enabled via an enhanced dedicated transport channel (E-DCH) and one high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) for uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) data traffic between the user terminal (UE) and the Node-B (NB). The Node-B (NB) comprises a HSDPA scheduler (HS-S) for scheduling the data rate for the DL data traffic via the HS-DSCH. It further comprises an EUL scheduler (EUL-S) for scheduling the maximum data rate for the UL data traffic via the E-DCH. The method is particularly characterized in that the Node-B (NB) estimates 111 the power consumption and/or the corresponding transmision time for at least one forthcoming E-DCH DL transmission on at least one E-DCH physical channel. The Node-B (NB) sends 112 the estimated power consumption and/or the corresponding transmission time information to the HSDPA scheduler (HS-S) prior to the E-DCH DL transmission.

    • A system and method of verifying layer 1 coding in a node. The method begins by conducting downlink processing of user data by a node. The node then outputs coded data. Next, downlink processing of the user data is conducted by an independent reference model. The independent reference model utilizes scheduler decisions from the node to conduct the downlink processing. The reference model then outputs coded data. The coded data from the node is compared with the coded data from the reference model. If the coded data from the node is substantially similar to the coded data from the reference mode, the coded data from the node is correct.

    • The present invention describes a method of migrating a mobile station, operating within an integrated D-AMPS/EDGE wireless telecommunication network, from the D-AMPS packet portion of the network to the EDGE/GPRS packet portion of the network. The technique includes accessing the control channels of both the D-AMPS and EDGE networks in order to obtain the necessary timing advance and packet transfer identifier for use with the GPRS packet system. In an embodiment of the invention, the MS makes a first access on a D-AMPS control channel to obtain a pointer to a reserved radio block on an EDGE packet control channel. The MS makes a second access on the EDGE control channel as specified by the reserved radio block which contains a particular frequency and timeslot location. The MS then sends a series of shortened bursts to the network such that a Timing Advance Index (TAI) value is calculated from the bursts and sent back to the MS. A packet data channel (PDCH) is assigned by the network and sent to the MS to perform the packet data transfer using the estimated TAI and assigned TFI.

    • A method and apparatus for caching mobile station location information comprising a gateway packet switch node for receiving and transmitting data packets between a plurality of visiting packet switch nodes and at least one communication network and a cache memory located within the gateway packet switch node for caching location information received with a data packet from a transmitting mobile station. A communication packet, containing information pertaining to the location of a transmitting mobile station is received by the gateway packet switch node. The location information is extracted from the received communication packet and cached. When an incoming data packet is received by the gateway packet switch node, a determination is made as to whether the location information for the destination mobile station is stored within the cache. If the location information is stored within the cache the location information is retrieved from the cache and the data packet is routed to the mobile station. Otherwise, the location information is retrieved from a home location register and the data packet is routed to the mobile station.
