    • An inflator is formed of a cylindrical casing, and a partition situated in the casing to be offset from a middle in a longitudinal direction of the casing to one end side of the casing. Thus, the casing has a first chamber on the one end side and a second chamber on the other end side. A gas generant is filled in the first and second chambers for generating gases. First holes are formed in the casing only near the partition to communicate with the first chamber. When the gas generant in the first chamber is ignited, a gas is ejected through the first holes near the partition to inflate the airbag as equal as possible in the longitudinal direction. Second holes are formed in the casing only at the middle in the longitudinal direction of the casing to communicate with the second chamber. When the gas generant in the second chamber is ignited, a gas is ejected through the second holes at the middle of the casing to equally inflate the airbag in the longitudinal direction.

    • A mirror operating device for speeding up a photographic operation cycle in a camera having a reflecting mirror for viewfinder observation. The reflecting mirror is movable between a first position blocking a photographic optical path and a second position aside from the photographic optical path. An electromotive drive source moves the reflecting mirror to the first position from the second position after an exposure to view a subject in a viewfinder. The time required for performing a mirror lowering operation is improved by controlling operation of a shutter mechanism and the electromotive drive source to move the reflecting mirror according to specific timing operations. The opening of the shutter mechanism is controlled according to a signal from a first delay device, and the start of the electromotive drive source to drive the mirror is started in response to a signal from a second delay device. The signals from the first delay device and the second delay device are output with respect to a reference signal such that the electromotive drive source starts moving the mirror before the shutter mechanism is finished closing, at a time that the reflecting mirror substantially does not obstruct the photographic optical path until the closing of the shutter mechanism finishes.

    • A method of controlling the operation of multistage centrifugal compressor equipment provided with inlet guide vanes and diffuser vanes at each stage to enable operation to be practiced at a low energy consumption level. The method includes the steps of determining whether the prevailing flow rate, for example, is in a range of flow rates near the desired flow rate or in a range of flow rates remote therefrom; and controlling a combination of the amount of operation of the guide vanes with the amount of operation of the diffuser vanes, which is set beforehand, when the prevailing flow rate is determined to be in the latter range to promptly bring the prevailing flow rate to the desired flow rate level, and effecting fine adjustments of the inlet guide vanes and diffuser vanes to control the angles thereof when the prevailing flow rate is determined to be in the former range, thereby enabling increased efficiency to be achieved in the operation of the compressor equipment.
