    • A motion picture apparatus is provided which comprises a rotary disc shutter having a shutter sector and actuated by an electric drive device. A claw mechanism is controlled by the electric drive device and provides for transport of a film. An electromagnetic solenoid provides for stopping the film in position. A plunger for the solenoid is provided for disengaging the claw transport mechanism after a frame transport phase upon generation of an appropriate signal. A position signal generator provides a shutter position signal depending on the position of the shutter sector and a marking signal generator provides a signal depending on the detection of a marking placed on the film. The position signal generator is connected to a first input of an AND gate and the marking signal generator is connected to a second input of the AND gate. The output of the AND gate is connected to the solenoid.The apparatus and a corresponding method provide for stopping a film without interference in proper position.

    • A motion picture camera has a rotary shutter driven by a DC motor which is supplied from a battery. The camera also has an arrangement for making light markings for identification purposes on the film in the camera. This arrangement includes a light-emitting diode and a capacitor which is charged by the battery and discharges across the diode. The electrical circuitry is such that the capacitor is connected to the battery only when the motor is disconnected therefrom; inversely, when the motor is to be connected to the battery in order to operate the shutter (and also to advance the film), the capacitor is first disconnected from the battery before the motor is connected to it and then discharges across the diode. The circuit also suppresses afterglowing of the diode.

    • A sound motion picture camera capable of using a sound film is disclosed. The camera includes a film receiving chamber having an image recording location and a sound recording location, a first film feeding device for intermittently transporting a film loaded in the chamber from the image recording location toward the sound recording location, a second film feeding device for transporting the film transported by the first film feeding means further downstream from the sound recording location at a substantially constant speed, a switching device interposed between the first and second film feeding devices and a control device for controlling the operation of the film feeding devices. The switching device is so designed that ON-OFF of the switch is controlled by the movement of the film and that the switch produces pulse signals at an almost constant interval so long as the film transporting operations of the first and second film feeding devices are going well keeping a desired proper operating relation therebetween. But, whenever the operating relation of the two film feeding devices becomes disordered, the switch device continues putting out positive or negative signals. These signals are detected by the control device which terminates the film transporting operations of both the first and second film feeding devices when the ON or OFF signals continue coming out from the switching device for a longer time period than a predetermined time duration.

    • A device for sensing notches in an edge of a longitudinally transported film strip has a two-armed lever pivoted at a point to one side of the film path to deflect in the film plane. One arm carries at its end a spring biased roller which rotates freely against the moving unnotched film edge but which is biased into engagement with a notch to deflect the lever. The other lever arm is contacted by the actuating button of a microswitch the internal spring of which biases the lever to a quiescent position. A preselected deflection of the lever from this position actuates the microswitch to indicate the presence of a notch. Stops limit the deflection of the lever which is essentially normal to the direction of film movement, deflecting from a just obtuse to a just acute angle when entrained by a notch. The microswitch may be replaced by a photoelectric switching arrangement.
