    • A projector automation system for controlling one or more controlled systems having functionality that is responsive at least in part to automation control signals. The automation system interacts with a digital projector having a control port and a film projector having a cue sensor that generates cue signals. A film-based cinema automation component receives the cue signals and generate at least some of the automation control signals to the one or more controlled systems. A second cinema automation component has a first interface coupled to the control port of the digital projector and the first cinema automation system. The second cinema automation component includes means for generating at least some of the automation control signals to the one or more controlled systems either autonomously, semi-autonomously, or in response to commands from an external scheduling system.

    • A pair of signals optically different in consistency is placed on an image information recording film to be projected. A projector is provided with at least a pair of light detection elements in a position where signals may be detected. The difference between outputs from the elements is utilized as a detection signal. The above-described signals are detected by way of an ordinary speed of the film so as to automatically switch the projection mode thereof to other projection modes, such as a still projection mode, a slow motion projection mode, a fading projection mode, and still projection mode for the search and after the search. For this purpose there are provided with a control circuit for processing the output of the detection element and a drive mechanism for providing the respective projection mode in response to the output signal from the control circuit.

    • A stepping motor for intermittently advancing a motion-picture film, in a projector or a camera, has a stator with an annular array of magnet poles divided into 2n sectors of p poles each, p being at least equal to 3, co-operating with a stator having a concentric array of teeth whose 2n sectors contain (q) teeth with q an integer greater than p/2 but less than p. Each pole of one sector is paired with a correspondingly positioned pole of an adjoining sector, the two poles of a pair being antiphasally excitable by a short pulse whereby sequential energization of the several pole pairs attracts the rotor into successive rotary positions by angular increments equaling a fraction Alpha /p of a tooth spacing Alpha pi /nq. After a series of p pulses, the rotor has advanced by one or more tooth spacings Alpha into a position in which one pole in each sector remains energized for a prolonged period to arrest the entrained film and to light a projection lamp and/or open an associated shutter. The stepping rate can be altered by varying the pulse cadence; the sense of rotation can be reversed by switching the sequence of pole energization within each sector.

    • A motion picture camera having an electromagnet which is energized only briefly in order to stop the operation of the camera. The camera is capable of being operated both continuously or in a single-frame mode. Also, the camera includes for starting and stopping purposes, a simple switch having only a pair of terminals bridged by a single switch blade. The circuitry which connects the above components is such that the electromagnet is briefly energized upon opening of a start-stop switch in order to terminate operation of the camera motor as well as to automatically bring about deenergizing of the electromagnet with the camera motor being capable of resuming its operation only upon closing of the start-stop switch.

    • A motion film projector which comprises an image plane and a gate for holding a frame of a motion picture film to be projected in the image plane. An optical system defines an optical axis, and the frame is located on the optical axis. A focusing device is provided for the optical system. A drive is arranged for feeding the film along a predetermined path including the image plane. The drive has at least two operating modes comprising at least one run mode and a still mode of operation for selectively providing motion picture projection and still picture projection. A focus adjuster is connected to the focusing device to provide a basic adjustment of the same for focusing the frames of the film during the run mode oepration. A mode selector controls the operating modes of the drive and has accordingly at least one run mode position and a still mode position. A coupling member is provided to connect the focusing device to the mode selector. The mode selector further has a plurality of focusing positions adjacent the still mode position. In the focusing positions the coupling member connects the focusing device to the mode selector to override the basic adjustment and to focus the frame individually during the still mode operation.
