    • In a damping apparatus, a magnet section is connected to a vibration-elimination-table mounting frame on the side of a vibration elimination table via layered rubber blocks that are rigid in the axial direction but flexible in directions perpendicular to the axial direction, so that with respect to the mounting frame, the magnet section is supported to be flexible in the direction of force generated by a drive coil but rigid in the directions perpendicular to the direction of the force. The magnet section is supported by a floor mounting frame on the floor side via layered rubber blocks, so that with respect to the floor mounting frame, the magnet section is supported to be rigid in the direction of the force but flexible in directions perpendicular to the direction of the force. Accordingly, an air gap in which a drive coil is disposed can be narrowed, while preventing interference of the drive coil, so that a larger force can be generated in order to damp the vibration elimination table while preventing the magnetic flux density from decreasing. Moreover, the layered rubber blocks shut off vertical vibrations of the floor.

    • An improved shock isolating mount is designed for securing a body part of a vehicle to a support. The shock mount comprises a two-part spool that includes: a spacer formed from an annular flange integral with a tube, the tube projecting through apertures in mating elastically resilient bodies and a mounting part of a vehicle body part disposed between them; a thimble, formed from a flange integral with a tube designed such that the thimble tube can telescope into the spacer tube. The thimble tube is formed into a polygon shape at the tube shoulder adjacent the thimble flange and the spacer tube is formed in a matching polygon shape such that the thimble tube shoulder can mate with the spacer tube. The thimble tube has an enlarged end which is engaged by a plurality of inward protrusions mounted in the spacer tube to prevent the spacer and thimble assembly from accidental disengagement. The thimble tube is internally threaded to engage a threaded fastener inserted through the support, through the spool tube, and into the thimble tube. When tightened, the fastener draws the flanges of the spacer and thimble together to simultaneously securely clamp the mounting part of the vehicle body and secure the shock mount and the mounting part to the vehicle frame.

    • A strut connecting a transversely mounted engine to an automobile frame component accommodates normal engine oscillation within a limited range of motion, such occurs at idle, while restraining excessive engine motion such as occurs during acceleration. The strut includes a complementary pair of elongate plates slidably mounting therebetween at opposite ends a pair of friction elements each of which is compressed between the plates by attachment means for connecting the strut in place. The attachment means includes a pair of elastomeric blocks bonded to the plates and washers bonded to the blocks and interconnected by a sleeve passing transversely through apertures in the plates and the friciton element. The aperture in the friction element is smaller than the apertures in the plates to provide a gap around the attachment sleeve. The elastomeric blocks provide an elastic shear connection which permits the attachment sleeve to oscillate axially through a limited extent relative to the plates for accommodating normal engine oscillations while enabling the sleeve to engage the friction element and displace it between the plates for controlling and damping engine motion outside the permitted range.
