摘要： A needlepunch fabric of staple polyester fibers is disclosed that is elastomeric and has foam-like compressibility and resilience. The polyester staple is formed of fibers having a differential birefringence. Mechanically crimped fibers are carded, crosslapped, and needlepunched to from about 150 to 1500 ppsi, and the resultant fabric is heated to from about 120.degree. to 240.degree. C. to induce a latent crimp in the fabric and to develop the elastomeric and foam-like properties of the fabric.

摘要： A multi-layer article of manufacture includes an intermediate layer of a water-swellable colloidal clay, such as bentonite, sandwiched between two layers of flexible sheet or fabric material wherein the two flexible layers of sheet or fabric material are structurally interconnected through the intermediate clay layer, such as by needle punching, after lubrication of the clay surface with a liquid, such as water, to interconnect fibers of one fabric layer to the other fabric layer at spaced locations over essentially the entire inner surface areas of both sheet or fabric material layers. In a preferred embodiment, a water-insoluble adhesive is applied to at least one of the fabric layers to lock the interconnecting fibers in place and substantially increase the structural integrity, particularly the shear strength, of the article.

摘要： A nonwoven polyolefin sheet useful as a primary carpet backing in making a moldable, tufted automotive carpet. The polyolefin sheet, preferably polypropylene, is prepared by melt spinning filaments from a plurality of spinnerets and then drawing the spun filaments to a draw ratio of less than 2.0 to maintain high filament elongation as the filaments move from high to low elongation as the draw increases. The drawn filaments are deposited in both the machine and cross-machine directions on a moving collection belt to form a nonwoven sheet having a unit weight of 100 to 150 g/m.sup.2. The resulting sheet is lightly bonded using a steam bonder and then debonded such that sheet thickness increases by between 2.5 and 3.5 times. The tufted sheet has an elongation of at least 40%. The invention sacrifices high sheet strength for tufted sheet elongation in both the machine and cross-machine directions in order to make a moldable, tufted automotive carpet that resists tearing, creasing and grinning while still retaining its shape after demolding.

摘要： A stitchbonded comfort fabric is disclosed that is absorbent, durable and quick-drying. The fabric is made up of an absorbent, evaporation-reservoir layer and a nonabsorbent, transport layer. The evaporation-reservoir layer comprises a nonwoven web that is stitched with at least one bulkable stitching yarn. The transport layer weighs at least 10 gms/sq m and can be formed from a network of fibrous stitching yarns that do not significantly absorb water and do not exhibit stitching gaps wider than 3 mm. The resulting fabric has a basis weight of between 20 and 120 gm/sq. m, a bulk of at least 10 cc/gm and the capability of absorbing at least 5 times its weight in water. The fabric is useful in intimate apparel, underwear, swimwear, sports shirting, headbands and comfort linings.

The preferred construction of an inner layer of two ply lightweight cellulose natural fibers with relatively lightweight continuous filament thermoplastic fiber layers, on both outer sides of the cellulose fiber layer, bonded by stitching with a medium to heavy textile yarn in a prescribed stitch pattern provides a composite wiper having layer bond strength and hand feel of a desired textile nature along with improved wipe performance characteristics. This stitchbonded composite wiper while economically disposable is reusable and effective for multiple applications, particularly those applications of a heavy duty nature wherein wiping is traditionally performed using textile wiping materials or heavy weight nonwovens.
