    • A color image forming apparatus includes a first density detecting unit for detecting a density of a first detection toner image formed on an image bearing member or a transferring material carrying member, and a second density detecting unit for detecting a density of a second detection toner image fixed onto a transferring material, and executes image density control based on a detection result of the first density detecting unit and a detection result of the second density detecting unit. A detecting light application position of the first density detecting unit and a detection light application position of the second density detecting unit are almost equal relative to a perpendicular direction to a transferring material conveying direction. It is thereby possible to shorten time required for density control and to prevent deterioration of density control accuracy caused by a temporal change and a positional change in the density of a detection toner patch.

    • An image forming device which is provided with a developing unit for image visualizing an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrying body by utilizing two components developing agent containing toners and carriers, transfers a toner image on a recording medium and fixes the toner image transferred on the recording medium on another recording medium to obtain a record image, which is further provided with a patch sensor for detecting an image density of the record image and controls toner density stabilization control and adjustment value and bias voltage in the developing unit according to a value detected by the patch sensor and a value of current flowing in the image carrying body from the developing unit. Thereby, an image forming device is provided which performs a stable image density control when a problem is caused during processing of a predetermined number of printing pages, in particular, even when a deterioration of image due to abnormal property change of a developing agent is caused.

    • During the operation of a document processing system machine and job data are collected from a document processing system. Optionally, machine information, both for the specific machine and population based data are acquired from a database or server. Having accumulated the job data and machine data, the diagnostic inference engine performs an analysis to determine the initial diagnosis of the document processing system. After obtaining the initial diagnosis, the system determines the test patterns to be printed and the image quality tests to be performed. The system then prints test patterns, and scans the patterns to determine image quality parameters and/or to automatically identify image defects. Optionally, image defect information may also be provided by the customer or the service engineer via a user interface. Next, a diagnostic inference engine uses the results of the image quality analysis to refine the initial diagnosis. Then, the diagnostic results are output, stored, and optionally displayed to, for example a customer or a customer service engineer. Based on the diagnostic results, and if problems are found, the machine enters a repair sequence. In particular, the machine can request either a customer or a customer service engineer repair action, or, alternatively, enter an auto-correction or an auto-calibration mode to repair itself. Upon completion of one or more, or any combination, of these repair actions, the machine verifies its operation and again checks to ensure the repairs have been completed successfully.

    • High precision image density characteristics are stable maintained over extended periods of time. For this purpose, a first calibration operation is preformed in which a predetermined grayscale pattern is formed on a recording paper and this pattern is read by a reading device to produce a LUT for controlling the laser output in accordance with the image signal (gamma correction). A second calibration operation is performed after the first calibration operation wherein a patch is formed on an image carrier by the laser output controlled by the above LUT, its density is detected by a detector and a correction LUT is generated in accordance with the detected density.
