    • A flywheel that has a flywheel main body and an inertia ring is provided. The flywheel main body has a disc-like shape. The inertia ring (i) has an annular shape, (ii) has a plurality of fastening portions, (iii) is fastened to the flywheel main body by the fastening portions, (iv) has a plurality of notches provided spaced apart in a circumferential direction of the inertia ring, in at least one of an inner peripheral surface or an outer peripheral surface of the inertia ring, and (v) has at least one of the fastening portions at each portion that is positioned between the notches.

    • An electric motor assembly including an electric motor and a flywheel assembly. The electric motor includes a rotatable shaft, at least a portion of the shaft being tapered as the shaft extends from the electric motor to an outer end of the shaft, the outer end of the shaft being threaded to receive a securing member. The flywheel assembly, which optionally includes a pulley and/or fan, includes a bore extending through a center of the flywheel assembly, at least a portion of the bore being tapered as the bore extends from an inner periphery facing the electric motor to the outer periphery of the flywheel assembly. The shaft of the electric motor extends through the bore of the flywheel assembly such that the taper of the shaft and the bore center the flywheel-pulley assembly on the shaft and create a self-holding taper arrangement. A securing member can be secured onto the outer end of the shaft to fix the flywheel assembly axially. Methods of forming and use are also provided.

    • A high-speed steel flywheel for a flywheel uninterruptible power is constructed by stacking several unpierced steel discs together. Each disc is heat treated prior to assembly. Thin axial thickness of each disc enables complete rapid quenching to attain a fully hardened condition and development of high tensile strength. The individual discs are machined or ground to shape and assembled to form an axially thicker flywheel capable of storing several kilowatts of energy or more. The discs are attached together by welding, brazing, soldiering, bonding or an interference assembly. The stacked disc configuration minimizes chances of catastrophic failure of the flywheel due to initiation of a crack in a single disc by restricting axial crack propagation to that single disc, and supporting the cracked disc by one or more adjacent discs until the flywheel can be safely decelerated.

    • A torsional damper pulley improved in general versatility, easily produced and capable of reduction in production cost. The torsional damper pulley is constructed of a hub 11 fixed at a revolving shaft of an internal combustion engine, an annular pulley body 10 coaxially placed at an annular fixing portion 11b at an outer circumference of the hub, and an elastic solid 13 interposed between an outer circumferential surface of an annular fixing portion and an inner circumferential surface of the pulley body. The pulley body 10 is constructed of an annular frame 12 substantially U-shaped in section, having an concave portion 15 open at one side in an axial direction, and an inertia mass element 14 inserted into the concave portion 15 in an axial direction and fixed. The inertia mass element is a laminate made by overlaying annular plates 14a on each other and bonding them, and the inertia mass element is fixed by being press-fitted into the concave portion.
