    • A disc brake system comprises a mounting hub and at least one disc supported by the mounting hub. The mounting hub has a center portion and an outer portion substantially perpendicular to the center portion and defines a central axis extending perpendicular to the center portion. A plurality of grooves are defined within the outer portion and are spaced radially about the central axis. Each of the grooves extends longitudinally relative to the central axis. A bearing is disposed in each of the plurality of grooves and operatively connects the mounting hub and the disc such that the bearing rotates about a bearing axis and moves longitudinally within the groove in response to axial movement of the disc.

    • A hub assembly for a disk brake of a bicycle includes a support shaft, a hub body pivotally mounted on the support shaft and provided with two drum disks, a mounting portion protruding from one of the drum disks, a threaded section protruding from the mounting portion, a brake disk resting on the end face of the mounting portion, and a chainwheel screwed onto the threaded section and pressing the brake disk so that the brake disk is clamped between the mounting portion and the chainwheel closely. Thus, the brake disk is mounted on and detached from the hub body by screwing and unscrewing the chainwheel, so that the hub assembly is assembled and disassembled easily and rapidly, thereby facilitating a user assembling and disassembling the hub assembly.

    • A two-piece floating disc brake assembly comprises a hub with a plurality of radially extending drive cogs that engage a corresponding plurality of teeth that extend radially inwardly from the disc brake rotor. The disc is retained to the rotor by a plurality of retainers that are bolted to the axially outward surface of the brake rotor to engage the axially outward surfaces of the drive cogs. Axially float of the brake disc relative to the brake hub is provided by a plurality of axially slots between the drive cogs that are deeper than the thickness of the drive cogs. Because the axial clearance is established by the depth of the radial slots alone, tolerance on axially float is easier to maintain and is independent of the thickness of the brake disc.

    • A brake assembly for use on vehicles includes a rotor and a wheel mount, formed as a hat portion, fastened to the rotor with a bobbin assembly. The rotor has a flange formed as a series of spaced tabs, and the bobbin assembly is bolted to the hat portion with the rotor flange clamped therebetween. A spring clip can be used with the bobbin to accommodate thermal expansion of the rotor and eliminate rotor rattling. The bobbin has a binocular shape that receives a pair of bolts. A crush zone can be provided between the rotor and the bobbin yields to accommodate machining tolerances of the rotor and promote uniform torque transfer distribution to the hub. Torque is transferred from the brake rotor to the hat portion in a common plane to prevent twisting in the fastener connection.

    • A floating brake disc assembly (10) has a hub member (14) and a rotor (12) mounted to the hub member for rotation therewith, the rotor being capable of moving in an axial direction of the disc relative to the hub member to a limited extent. A number of drive members (38) are rigidly attached to the rotor for engagement in corresponding cutouts (36) in the hub member, the drive members being movable in an axial direction of the disc relative to the cutouts as the rotor moves axially relative to the hub member. The axial movement of the rotor relative to the hub member is limited by corresponding stop means (26, 34a; 46, 34B) associated with the rotor and the hub member respectively. A friction means (60) is provided to resist, at least initially, axial movement of at least one of the drive members relative to its corresponding cutout. The friction means introduces a predetermined level of hysteresis into the floating disc mechanism to reduce rattle and vibration.
