摘要： The present invention relates to synthetic methods for grafting hydrophilic chains onto polymers, particularly hydrophobic polymers such as poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF), and chlorinated polypropylene (cPP). Resulting polymers include comb polymers which can have a microphase-separated structure of hydrophilic domains provided by the hydrophilic chains. Articles prepared from these comb polymers, particularly derived from PVDF, include membranes for water filtration in which the hydrophilic domains provide a pathway for water transport. PVC can be plasticized by grafting the PVC with hydrophilic chains. In addition, such articles, particularly articles having biomedical applications, can display anti-thrombogenic properties.

摘要： Methods for the purification of steam, systems for purifying steam, methods for measuring and/or controlling steam flow rates, and uses for purified steam are provide. Also provided are substantially gas-impermeable membranes, such as perfluorinated ionomers (e.g., perfluoroethylene-sulfonic-acid/tetrafluoroethylene membranes), having a high ratio of water vapor permeation relative to gas permeation through the membrane. Also provided are methods of operation of such membranes at relatively high operating temperatures for the purification of steam and for operation of such membranes at relatively low temperature and sub-atmospheric pressures for the purification of steam. In a preferred embodiment, the system 400 for purifying steam comprises heater 404 for creating a source of a steam feed, and a purification device 416 for housing a substantially gas-impermeable membrane 424. In the operation of system 400, water, such as deionized water, is added to vessel 402 to provide a source of the steam feed.

摘要： The present invention relates to a process for separating substance mixtures by means of a nonporous polymer film which has (a) at least one inorganic or organometallic phase and (b) at least one organic polymer phase, wherein the polymer film is obtainable by polymerizing at least one monomer which has at least one first polymerizable monomer segment A1 comprising at least one metal or semimetal M and at least one second polymerizable organic monomer segment A2 which is connected to the polymerizable monomer segment A1 via a covalent chemical bond, under polymerization conditions under which both the polymerizable monomer segment A1 and the polymerizable organic monomer segment A2 polymerize with breakage of the covalent chemical bond between A1 and A2. The present invention also relates to the use of the aforementioned polymer films for permeation, gas separation or pervaporation.
