    • A calculation method suitable for use in statistics calculations and a calculator using the method are disclosed. The method has the steps of storing a memory content from a memory in a first register of a calculation circuit; storing input data in a second register of the calculation circuit; performing a calculation on the contents of the first register and the second register, and storing the result of the calculation in the first register; determining that the calculation result stored in the first register has not overflowed; transferring the content of said first register to the memory and overwriting the memory content therewith, if the calculation result has not overflowed after the processes have been repeated a specified number of times. The calculator has an input section for inputting data; a calculation section for performing a specified calculation on the data; an overflow determination section for determining whether or not a calculation result that is the result of the calculation has overflowed; a calculation totalling section for determining whether or not the calculation has been performed a specified number of times; and a memory section for storing the calculation result obtained by the calculation means, if the calculation totalling means has determined that the calculation has been performed the specified number of times.

    • In a diesel engine controlling system having a fuel injection pump, a fuel injection timing adjusting device is controlled by a drive pulse signal whose duty cycle is controlled by a microcomputer. The duty cycle is determined such that a basic duty cycle obtained by using engine rotational speed and injection quantity, is modified or corrected by way of a correction factor and a forecast correction factor. The-first mentioned correction factor comprises an integration component and a proportional component both derived from the difference between a measured fuel injection or ignition timing and a desired or reference fuel injection or ignition timing, which is calculated by using the engine rotational speed and the injection quantity. The forecast correction factor corresponds to a differential value of the basic duty cycle or the desired fuel injection or ignition timing. In order to detect the fuel injection or ignition timing a timing detector is employed, where the state of an output signal from the detector is monitored to prohibit calculation of the difference or error, thereby correcting the basic duty cycle by only the forecast correction factor when the detector is in abnormal condition.

    • A spacer or retainer secures two circuit boards in a back-to-back configuration. The spacer has opposite first and second sides, each having a peripheral rim against which the circuit boards fit. Each side is recessed to a depth enabling any component terminals or connections from rear surfaces of the circuit boards to be received in the recesses. Pins on ends of the spacer are received in apertures in the circuit boards to guide the circuit boards into position on the spacer. Two clips are positioned next to each other on one wall forming the peripheral rim. Each clip extends beyond an opposite side, and the clips have resilient tabs biased to press the circuit boards against the rims. The circuit boards are connected by electrical wire extending around an opposite wall of the peripheral rim. The spacer and circuit boards form a subassembly, such as for a vehicle instrument cluster.
