    • A Serial Advanced Technology Attachment-based (SATA-based) flash memory device configured for coupling with a host machine. The device includes semiconductor memory configured for storing data and a plug having therein a plug cavity, the plug cavity having a generally L shape cavity for housing a set of SATA industry-standard signal pins in respective industry-standard positions with respect to the plug cavity. The plug additionally has a set of power pins that includes at least a first power pin. The SATA-based flash memory device employs a SATA protocol for exchanging the data with the host machine using the set of SATA industry-standard signal pins, the SATA-based flash memory device obtaining power via the set of power pins.

    • A Universal-Serial-Bus (USB) device includes a PCBA mounted inside a molded plastic housing structure such that metal contacts are exposed on a plug portion of the housing structure, and includes a metal plug shell attached to the housing structure such that an upper wall of the metal plug shell is spaced from the metal contacts by a predetermined gap distance. A USB controller IC is mounted onto a relatively narrow portion of the PCBA under the metal contacts to reduce overall length of the USB device. The metal plug shell is molded or snap-coupled onto tabs formed on the plug portion of the housing structure. An optional locking collar secures a rear edge of the metal plug shell to the housing structure. An optional rear cover is attached over a rear opening of the housing structure and secures a rear edge of the PCBA.

    • Embodiments of a plug and cap of a Universal-Serial-Bus (USB) device have been presented. In one embodiment, a USB device includes a main body, a piece of string, and a cap. The main body has a printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) and a casing, wherein the PCBA is partially housed in the casing, and the PCBA further includes a USB connector protruding out of the casing at a first end of the casing. The piece of string is coupled to the main body and the cap. The cap is detachably coupled to the first end of the casing of the main body to cover the USB connector, wherein the cap remains indirectly coupled to the casing via the piece of string when the cap is detached from the first end of the casing to expose the USB connector.

    • A flash-memory drive replaces a hard-disk drive using an integrated device electronics (IDE) interface. The flash drive has a printed-circuit board assembly (PCBA) with a circuit board with flash-memory chips and a controller chip. The controller chip includes an input/output interface circuit to an external computer over the IDE interface, and a processing unit to read blocks of data from the flash-memory chips. The PCBA is encased inside an upper case and a lower case, with an IDE connector that fits through and opening between the cases. The cases can be assembled with the PCBA by a snap-together, ultrasonic-press, screw-fastener, or thermal-bond adhesive method. Center lines formed on the inside of the cases fit between rows of flash-memory chips to improve case rigidity. The connector has two rows of pins that straddle the center line of the circuit board for a balanced design.
