    • A teeter-totter valve device for metering magnetic particles from a hopper includes (i) a tube connected to the hopper for flow of magnetic particles out of the hopper; (ii) a teeter-totter member having a first arm including a first distal end, and a second adjustable arm including a second distal end; (iii) a support assembly supporting the teeter-totter member on and spaced from the tube; (iv) a first magnet located at the first distal end; (v) a second magnet located at the second distal; and (vi) a moving assembly for moving each of the first magnet and the second magnet towards and away from a first near point and a second near point on the tube to create or remove a point magnetic field and magnetic particles dam within the tube, thereby stopping or allowing flow of a desired quantity of magnetic particles past the first near point and past the second near point.

    • A substrate characterization device is provided which includes a sensor module and a processor. The sensor module has at least one contact surface configured to contact the substrate, the sensor module configured to measure a variance of capacitance in at least two dimensions of the substrate, the sensor module further configured to generate a signal indicative of the measured variance. The processor is in operative communication with a memory module and configured to execute a series of programmable instructions for making a comparison of the signal generated by the sensor module with at least one reference signal.     • Systems and methods are provided for using a sensor to determine a charge-to-mass ratio, and a concentration, of a mixture including a first component and a second component. A base resonance frequency of the sensor in an unloaded state is measured. A surface of a vibrating element of the sensor is loaded with the mixture. A first resonance frequency, of the loaded sensor is measured and a mass of the mixture is calculated. A first component is attracted to, and a second component is removed from, the vibrating element of the sensor. A second resonance frequency, and a first charge, of the sensor are measured. The first component is removed and a second charge is measured. A mass and charge of the first component are calculated. Charge to mass ratio, and the concentration, of the first component are then derived from the calculated values.

    • An electrostatic filtering system which allows a steady flow of air into a development housing and prevent toner emission therefrom. The system is used in an apparatus for developing a latent image recorded on a surface includes the housing having a supply of toner therein; a donor member arranged in the housing to transport toner to a development zone adjacent the surface; and electrode for detaching toner from the donor member and produce a toner cloud in the development zone; and an air handling system, associated with the housing, for generating a negative air stream in the housing, the air handling system including the electrostatic filtering system for removing the toner from the negative air stream. The electrostatic filtering system includes a baffle mounted in the housing in the negative air stream and a high voltage DC for applying a bias to the baffle thereby creating an electrostatic field between the baffle and the developer for collecting toner emission.
