    • An improved high speed magnetic tape duplicator incorporates superior features from both thermomagnetic and anhysteretic processes to increase productivity in operating economics. Starting with a basic transport configuration of existing thermomagnetic equipment, the heating and cooling facilities are removed along with the non-magnetic transfer drum, and replaced with a magnetizable drum assembly and bias-field head suitable to anhysteretic duplication. Provisions are also added to correct tension errors so as to minimize skew and the transport control electronics are preferably replaced with a personal computer-based controller capable of furnishing additional functional capabilities including production reporting. Optionally, the master-tape loop-bin chamber is also specially modified with electrically ground static-control provisions.

    • An audio track disabling system and method wherein the track disabling system includes a disk holding assembly, for holding an audio compact disk, and a marking mechanism that includes a marking tip and a marking tip positioning mechanism; and the track disabling method includes the steps of 1) providing a track disabling system that includes a disk holding assembly, for holding an audio compact disk, and a marking mechanism that includes a marking tip and a marking tip positioning mechanism; 2) positioning an audio compact disk onto the disk holding assembly; 3) manipulating the positioning mechanism in a manner to position the marking tip onto a surface of the audio compact disk that is above the audio track to be disabled; and 4) manipulating the marking tip in a manner to create a disabling mark that provides a light blocking obstruction on the surface of the audio compact disk above the audio track to be disabled.

    • A debris barrier surrounds a transducer for preventing microscopic debris from migrating near the magnetic poles of the transducer in a disk drive. In one embodiment, the debris barrier is composed of a barrier wall and a barrier cavity and used with a thin film transducer. The barrier elements are disposed within a region of an air bearing surface surrounding the poles of the transducer such that, during operation, debris is collected within and around the barrier thereby preventing the debris from migrating to the pole region. By eliminating debris around the transducer poles, this invention eliminates errors caused by the debris and thereby provides a more reliable disk drive. In another embodiment, the debris barrier is used with multiple transducers. In yet another embodiment, the debris barrier is used with a planar structure transducer having planar poles.
