    • A cooling apparatus is provided in an electronic device, where the cooling apparatus operates on waste heat provided by a heat producing component, such as a computer processor. The cooling apparatus has at least one chamber which is thermally coupled with the processor such that heat from the processor expands the gas within the chamber. The expansion causes movement to a movable piston disposed within the chamber which rotates a crankshaft and fans coupled therewith. The expanded gas is cooled in another portion of the chamber or in another chamber. The cooled gas decreases in volume causing a piston to move, further rotating the crankshaft. The cycle begins again as the momentum of the crankshaft assists in reciprocating the piston or pistons and as additional heat from the processor is drawn into the chamber. The rotational movement of the crankshaft can be used to drive fans thereby cooling the electronic device. In addition, the rotational movement of the crankshaft can be used to power electromechanical devices, which are then used to provide a trickle charge for batteries.

    • The fluid end of a reciprocating pump contains a plurality of manifold cylinders for pumping fluid. The fluid end has an improved liner assembly with a shaft, a coaxial piston, and a liner with a liner seal on an outward end. The liner and seal abut an inner wall of the manifold to prevent pressurized fluid leakage between the liner and the manifold. The liner is pressed against the manifold by an adjustment mechanism which is mounted to a housing surrounding the pump. The adjustment mechanism is spaced axially away from the manifold wall and allows the liner to self-adjust to the wall without the need for a liner bushing. A support device is provided for assisting in the vertical alignment of the liner assembly prior to the liner being pressed tightly against the manifold wall.

    • A pump diaphragm that is composed of two different shore-hardness materials of the same base polymer. The diaphragm includes a strong layer that will withstand hydraulic pressures and one or more soft layers that can be shaped into desirable sealing configurations. The diaphragm is constructed by first injecting a first thermoplastic material, with a relatively lower percentage of rubber filler, into a mold cavity and allowing the first material to cure. The hardened first material is then placed into a second mold cavity. A second thermoplastic material which contains the same base polymer but a relatively higher percentage of rubber filler is then injected into the second cavity. The first and second material utilize the same base polymer and thus will have the same melt temperature, as well as a strong propensity to bond to each other when molten. The second material is introduced to the cavity at a temperature that melts the interface of the first material. As the second material and the interface hardness, the two layers have become chemically welded together. The second cavity gives shape to the sealing areas of the diaphragm.

    • A small envelope is achieved for an inelastically deformed connection between a spring cover and a central housing in a spring brake actuator. The connection is deformed radially inwardly and then extends radially outwardly from the radially inwardly extending portion. This eliminates the radially outwardly extending portion and flanges as are typically utilized in the prior art. Thus, a much smaller envelope is provided. In preferred embodiments of this invention, a seal groove is positioned axially adjacent a securement groove in the central housing. A seal is positioned in the seal groove to ensure an air-tight seal. In addition, a unique diaphragm guiding structure is incorporated into one embodiment of this invention.
