    • A standardized arched jamb assembly includes an arched jamb member and a pair of opposite upright jamb members with angled cuts made at opposite ends of the arched jamb member and upper end portions of the upright jamb members where the arched jamb member meets and interfaces with the upright jamb members to form the arched jamb assembly. The angled cuts are two-sided and have substantially the same standard angular configurations, irrespective of variations in the radii of curvature of upper arched jamb members used with upright jamb members to provide wall openings of different widths. The two-sided angled cuts are preferably standard right-angled notches and end cuts.

    • Two embodiments of a collapsible metal roof truss are disclosed. Both embodiments are made up jackknife foldable left and right heel sections, a jackknife foldable peak section and a center bottom chord. In the flat ceiling embodiment the center bottom chord can be solid. In the second cathedral ceiling embodiment the center bottom chord is split into two pivotally interconnected sections and a vertical web leg is added. The truss can be assembled in a variety of shapes and sizes and configurations and is easily collapsed after partial prefabrication for convenient shipping.

    • A hybrid truss and a system of fabricating a building using a hybrid truss is provided. The hybrid truss is designed to span large widths without center support. Each hybrid truss is typically made with two symmetrical truss members that join at the peak. Each member is made with an upper cord and a lower cord having cross bracing between the two cords. A peak end member is attached to the ends of the cords to join the two truss members at the peak to form the hybrid truss. Attached at the lower end of each truss member is a sleeve. The sleeve is rigidly attached to at least the lower cords and cross bracing. The sleeve redirects outward forces into the top of a post in a downward force and a slight rotational force. The sleeve is designed to slide over the top of a post or column to attach and properly position the truss on the top of the posts or columns. Vertical adjustment to level the hybrid truss is provided by vertical movement of the sleeve on the post. Once all the posts are placed, and cut to a generally level height, the hybrid trusses are lifted and placed on the posts with the sleeve fitting over the top of the posts. The sleeve, after being vertically adjusted, is secured to the the post with bolts, screws, nails or other fasteners. Backing 2×4 or 2×6's are attached across the top cord and to the outside of the posts. Roofing material and wall material are attached to the backing to enclose the building. The hybrid truss with the sleeve and this method allows a building to be constructed very rapidly and inexpensively. Site preparation is minimized, in that the land does not have to be leveled. There is no need for a concrete floor, foundation or footing. A building having a large width or span with high overhead clearance can be constructed in a very short time using the hybrid truss and the system of fabricating a building with the hybrid truss.

    • A geodesic dome is created by the steps of: (a) generating a mathematical model of a geodesic dome, (b) fabricating components with which to form a geodesic dome according to the model; and (c) fastening the components to each other according to the model. In the model, M base triangles are generated in a closed three-dimensional shape. M is at, least four, with eight being preferred and the preferred closed three-dimensional shape being a regular octahedron. The closed three-dimensional shape has a center point from which each vertex of each of the base triangles is equidistant, this distance being a geodesic radius. Each leg of each base triangle is then subdivided into N segments of equal length, N being at least two, with eight being preferred, thus defining N+1 segment endpoints or intersections along each leg. A line is then generated between each intersection and two corresponding intersections, thus defining N2 smaller triangles per base triangle. A line is then generated from each vertex of each of the smaller triangles to the center point. Each line thus generated is then extended until it is the same length as the geodesic radius. The endpoint of each extended line is then connected to each endpoint adjacent to the endpoint, thus generating a substantially curved surface formed of N2*M triangles, the substantially curved surface defining a mathematical model of a geodesic dome. Struts or panels ate fastened together in the pattern of the substantially curved surface to form the geodesic dome.

    • A joint for pre-cast concrete twin-leaf arch sections is self-aligning when the two arch sections are initially brought into abutting contact with each other. The joint provides a rigid connection between the twin units and is achieved on site by means of re-inforced cast-in-place concrete. Reinforcement splices for the connection are lap splices, and the joint allows pouring the cast-in-place concrete without the need of formwork. For load distributing purposes, a continuous connection of individual arch rings in the longitudinal direction at the arch crown is possible. An initial abutting contact between the twin units is provided by the joint of the present invention. The contact provided by the joint of the present invention is self-aligning, locking, allows the controlled transmission of the abutting force and allows for a temporary connection. The joint includes mechanical elements for aligning and locking the two arch sections together. The mechanical elements include, in the preferred embodiment, a projection on one arch section and a depression on the other arch section. Cast-in-place concrete is placed in boxed-out, or step, sections located adjacent to the mechanical elements and completes the joint.

    • A method and structure for forming a small building includes a continuous curved wall forming a semi-arcuate arch, the wall comprised of lightweight cellular material such as foamed blocks. The blocks may be identical and interchangeably secured in place by adhesive to form the wall, so that the arch is easily constructed. The arched wall comprises both the longitudinal sides and the top of the structure. In addition, the structure includes an outer skin which covers the entire exterior of the arched wall. The outer skin is both a weatherproof layer and a tension member to apply a compressive force uniformly to the outer surface of the arched wall and significantly augment the load strength of the arch, resulting in a structure that is made very strong with a minimum mass of material. The method of the invention includes the steps of providing a plurality of cellular blocks of expanded foam plastic or the like, each block defining an angular increment of an arched wall and having a length that is an incremental portion of the length of the arched wall. Courses of blocks are laid in laterally spaced arrangement and adhered in place until the arched wall is completed. Alternatively, incremental arches may be constructed horizontally and tilted upwardly into abutting, adjacent relationship. Thereafter, an outer skin is formed over the exterior surface of the arched wall and tensioned to compress the arched wall.
