    • To generate the desired dynamic pressure with an inexpensive structure. A hydrodynamic bearing device comprises a sleeve 1, a shaft 2, and oil 100. With the sleeve 1, a stepped portion 1b provided at one end and an inner peripheral face 1e extending linearly in the axial direction and continuously with the stepped portion 1b are formed by a working method that involves the use of a metal mold. The shaft 2 is inserted so as to be capable of relative rotation in the inner peripheral face 1e of the sleeve 1. The oil 100 fills the space formed between the inner peripheral face 1e of the sleeve 1 and the outer peripheral face 2a of the shaft 2. Dynamic pressure generation grooves 9a and 9b, which open in the axial direction at at least one end in the axial direction of the inner peripheral face 1e and are continuous in the axial direction from one end, are formed in the inner peripheral face 1e.

    • An active fluid bearing system is provided. In one example, the active fluid bearing system includes an interface region formed between an outer surface of an inner member and an opposing inner surface of an outer member. The inner and outer members are disposed for relative rotation of the inner and outer members, and thereby form an interface region having a hydrodynamic bearing region and an active bearing region. A liquid is disposed in the interface region at the hydrodynamic bearing region, and is further disposed in the active bearing region if the inner and outer members are not relatively rotating. The bearing system is operable for evacuating at least a portion of the liquid from the active bearing region during relative rotation of the inner and outer members. The active bearing region may be a journal bearing or a thrust bearing.

    • A fixed shaft type fluid dynamic bearing motor having two interfaces of a lubricating fluid, in which a channel leading from near the top end of the inner periphery of a rotating sleeve to near the periphery of the bottom of the sleeve is formed in the sleeve. The lubricating fluid near the top end of the inner periphery of the sleeve is thrown out into the channel by centrifugal force, and further conveyed to near the periphery of the bottom of the sleeve by centrifugal force and/or by slanted channel in circumferential direction. A dynamic-pressure generating groove for pumping the lubricating fluid toward the top end of the sleeve is formed between the fixed shaft and the sleeve. The dynamic-pressure generating groove and the centrifugal force cause the circulation of the lubricating fluid, thereby sealing the lubricating fluid. For bearing configuration, a cone bearing or a cylindrical bearing can be used to achieve a low profile. The axial space smaller than that of tapered seals can be utilized to achieve a low-profile recording disk drive.
