    • A method of and system for the 3-D reconstruction of an image from 2-D cone-beam tomography projections is disclosed in which a circle-plus-arc data acquisition geometry is utilized to provide a complete set of data so that an exact 3-D reconstruction is obtained. A volume CT scanner which uses a cone-beam x-ray source and a 2-D detector is utilized in which one set of cone-beam projections is acquired while rotating the x-ray tube and detector on the CT gantry and then another set of projections is acquired while tilting the gantry by a small angle. The projection data is preweighted and the partial derivatives of the preweighted projection data are calculated. Those calculated partial derivatives are rebinned to the first derivative of the Radon transform, for both the circular orbit data and the arc orbit data. The second partial derivative of the Radon transform is then calculated and then the reconstructed 3-D images are obtained by backprojecting using the inverse Radon transform.

    • In a computerized tomographic apparatus for medical radiographic purposes, high definition information is sometimes required in respect of a region inside the body. It is therefore necessary to subject that region to a considerable radiation dosage. This gives rise to difficulties of excessive dosage to the skin and other portions of the body surrounding said region. The invention provides an arrangement whereby radiation is projected through said region by way of different areas of the skin so as to provide the high definition information required for said region without subjecting the skin to excessive radiation dosage.

    • A machine for examining the interior of a patient which includes a movable support for the patient, a frame having an opening adapted to circumscribe the patient, a shutter assembly, an X-ray beam source mounted on one side of the opening with a detector unit mounted on the opposite side of the opening such that a beam emitted by the source passes through the patient prior to reception by the detector. The machine includes mechanisms for rotating the framework about the patient while there is a relative translational movement of the X-ray source and receptor relative thereto. The apparatus also includes mechanism for tilting the framework such that other-than-vertical planes may be examined. The opening of the machine is sufficiently large to receive a human body and eliminates the requirement of water bags and other such paraphernalia commonly associated with equipment of this type.
