    • There is an ice tray, an ejector for ejecting ice from the tray, an ice storage bin, a mechanism for delivering ice to the tray, a bail mechanism, and a motor for driving the ejector, water delivery mechanism, and bail mechanism. The bail mechanism includes a bail and a bail switch. The motor, via the bail mechanism, raises the bail from a lower position in which the switch energizes the icemaker to an upper position in which the switch opens and the icemaker is de-energized, then permits the bail to return to the lower position if the ice bin is not full. The bail is also manually raisable to a latch-up position to manually de-energize the icemaker. A compound spring provides a bias force to return the bail to the energizing position. The spring provides a weak return force over the range in which the motor drives the bail, a strong force in the range just prior to latch-up, and an intermediate force in the intermediate range. The bail mechanism is designed so that the spring forces the bail in one direction in the three ranges mentioned above and in the opposite direction upon latch-up.

    • A mold number reader for detecting code marks at the heel of a transparent bottle or the like, such code marks desirable being in the form of dots or balls protruding from the bottle's heel. During rotation of the bottle, its heel portion is illuminated with a structured light source in the form of a narrow rectangle, which light is selectively reflected by code marks and collected by field-type optics. The use of a well defined light source of small area provides a high input signal level, while the field optics enjoys a high depth of field and hence decreased sensitivity to bottle placement during inspection. The light source may be a modulated laser diode and the signal processing electronics may include a demodulator to process the photodetector output signal. The use of heterodyned signal processing decreases the sensitivity to ambient light and other sources of noise in the output signal.

    • This relates to improvements in drives for shears, particularly shears for severing gobs from a glass runner. All of the drives incorporate a drive pinion for reciprocating racks which are secured to slides of the shear. The pinion is rotated first in one direction and then in the opposite direction to cause the blades of the shear to first move together and shear a gob, and then move back to the original position. Suitable reversing motors may be utilized, including an electrical servomotor or suitable hydraulic motor. On the other hand, the drive motor may be of the unidirectional type and an oscillating drive member may be incorporated in the drive system for converting the one-directional drive of the motor to an oscillating or reversing output. In addition, the drive of the pinion may be supplemented by a double-acting air motor which is connected to one of the racks. The air motor or cylinder will provide the primary motor power for the shear, but the velocity thereof will be controlled by the servomotor or like motor which is connected to the pinions through a nonreversing drive.

    • An electrically operated exit device comprises a low powered dogging assembly for a pushbar and an electrical actuator for a latch bolt. A latching bracket is attached to the pushbar for movement inwardly and outwardly along a path. A dogging plate of the dogging element is pivotally moveable between a retracted position out of the path of the latching element and an extended position in the path of the latching element. The dogging plate is spring biased toward the extended position and has a protruding shoulder. When the dogging plate is extended and the pushbar moved inward manually, the latching bracket strikes the dogging plate, retracts it slightly against the force of the spring bias and then continues slightly beyond the shoulder of the dogging plate. Then, the doggin plate again extends fully under the influence of the spring bias such that a bearing surface on the far side of the shoulder catches the latching bracket and thereby dogs the pushbar.The electric latch bolt actuator is coupled to a deadbolt by a first linkage assembly and to the latch bolt by the second linkage assembly and simultaneously manipulates the deadbolt and latch bolt to free the door.

Operation of the moving means (32,36) can be used to increase the vertical component of the path.
