    • An LGA connector (1) includes a housing (2), a multiplicity of terminals (6) received in the housing, a stiffener (3) mounted on the housing, a load plate (4) pivotally mounted to a second end portion (23) of the housing, and a load lever (5) attached to a first end portion (22) of the housing. The housing comprises two opposite sidewalls (24) each including two latch portions (240), two channels (244) in a bottom thereof at respective latch portions thereby forming two resilient arms (246). The stiffener includes two elongated first plates (32) having two latch slots (320) for engaging with the corresponding latch portions of the housing. Thus, flexibility of the latch portions of the housing is enhanced thereby facilitating easy attachment of the stiffener onto the housing.

    • A substantially rectangular socket connector for connecting a CPU to a mother board, comprises a base and cover mounted on the base and movable relative thereto between open and closed positions along a diagonal direction of the connector. The cover defines a number slots extending in a direction parallel to the diagonal direction. The base forms a number of teeth slidably received in the slots. A number of contacts are fixedly received in contact passages defined in the base for engaging with/disengaging from pins of the CPU inserted into the connector in response to a movement of the connector between the closed and open positions. The cover further forms at least a ridge in a corresponding slot to divide the corresponding slot into two recessed regions. The tooth extending into the corresponding slot is received in either of the two recessed regions when the connector is at either of the open and closed positions whereby the connector can be more securely located at these two positions.

    • A matrix-type board-to-board electrical connector for horizontally and electrically engaging a daughter board with a mother board includes an insulative housing having a top surface and a bottom surface and defining a plurality of first and second passageways therethrough. Each first passageway receives a C-shaped resilient signal contact therein for transmitting high or low frequency signals. Each second passageway receives a substantially triangular shaped resilient power contact for carrying a large power current. The first passageways receiving the contacts which transmit high frequency signals either have a circular recess defined therearound for receiving a corresponding cylindrical shielding shell or are located between shielded first passageways thereby providing all of the contacts which transmit high frequency signals with shielding properties. The passageways are defined in the housing of the connector so that the contacts serving the same function are disposed in the same general area of the connector.

    • An LGA type IC assembly is mounted on a PCB by means of a fastening means which sandwiches the LGA assembly and the PCB between two plates. Conductive contacts received in passageways defined through a socket of the assembly each have two engagement portions projecting beyond the outer surfaces of the socket to contact corresponding flat contact pads formed on an IC package and the PCB, a beveled edge on an upper portion of a main body thereof, and a C-shaped resilient beam extending from the main body and forming a slanted portion integrally formed with the upper engagement portion. The IC package delivers a normal force to each contact causing the upper engagement portion thereof to slide across a surface of a corresponding contact pad of the IC package thereby removing oxidation therefrom, while the slanted portion contacts the beveled edge thereby shortening the signal transmission path through each contact. A retaining means formed on the contact secures the contact within the passageway and allows for slight vertical movement thereof, thereby preventing signal loss due to warpage of the PCB.
