    • An integrated circuit (IC) socket assembly (1) includes an IC socket (4) mounted on a burn-in board (3) and receiving an IC (2) therein, a supporting member (5) assembled on the burn-in board and covering the IC socket, a heat sink (6) assembled on the supporting member, and an actuation member (7) assembled on the supporting member. The heat sink includes a jacket (61) attached on the IC. The jacket defines a U-shaped channel for containing cooling liquid therein. The actuation member is capable of being operated from an open position to a closed position, in which the jacket abuts against a top surface of the IC and the IC is reliably electrically connected with the burn-in board. During burning in, the jacket can quickly efficiently dissipate heat from the IC and associated components the protect the IC from instability and damage.

    • A socket connector includes a base housing defining cavities, and contact elements positioned in the cavities. Each cavity has a first channel extending in a given direction and a second channel oblique with respect to and in communication with the first channel. Each contact element includes a retention section retained in the cavity and oblique with respect to the given direction. The contact element has a cantilever beam somewhat compliant with the given direction. A pin leg of an electronic package is initially received in the second channel of the cavity and movable in the given direction toward and biasingly engaging the cantilever beam. The contact element has a straight tail extending beyond the housing with a mass of solder attached thereto for soldering to a circuit board. A slot is defined in the tail for securely retaining the solder. A method for making the connector includes the steps of (1) providing a base housing defining cavities having first and second channels oblique with respect to each other; (2) forming a row of contact elements connected to a carrier strip by connection sections; (3) twisting the connection sections to obliquely orient the contact elements with respect to the carrier strip; and (4) gang loading the contact elements into the cavities with the cantilever beams of the contact element somewhat complaint with the given direction.

    • A low-inductance, low-resistance electrical connector for delivering power from a power supply to an IC module comprises a ground contact, a processor power contact and a cache power contact stamped from pure copper sheets and separated from each other by thin insulation film. Plastic members are provided with spring arms to engage with and thus provide sufficient normal force for contact arms of the corresponding contacts to engage with corresponding contact pads of the IC module thereby ensuring a reliable electrical connection. The ground contact and the processor and cache power contacts are connected with a capacitor board by pressure engagement to connect with the power supply. A number of individual signal contacts is also provided to interconnect a signal source with the IC module via a signal board.

    • A board-to-board connector assembly includes a plug connector and a receptacle connector having first and second housings receiving first and second contacts therein, respectively. Tail sections of the contacts are surface mounted to PCBs on which the plug and receptacle connectors are seated. A pair of mounting retainers are disposed in corresponding mounting recesses defined in opposite distal ends of both the first and second housings. The mounting retainers are inserted into the corresponding mounting recesses of the plug and receptacle connectors from top surfaces thereof. The tail portions of the contacts and bottom surfaces of the horizontal portions of the mounting retainers are surface mounted onto the corresponding PCBs. The plug and receptacle connectors are then mated together to electrically connect the PC boards.

    • A board-to-board connector block for horizontally and electrically engaging a secondary board with a source board includes an insulative housing defining a plurality of passageways therethrough for receiving a corresponding plurality of resilient contacts therein, positioning means for properly aligning the connector block onto the source board, a U-shaped lever pivotably engaged with the housing, stabilizing means for holding the lever in place when in a locked position, and fastening means for securing the lever onto the housing.
