    • If a USB device is turned off or is not active, the device may be electrically disconnected from a USB host controller. The device may be electrically disconnected through a physical interface on the device. In some embodiments, if the device becomes active during a wait period (e.g., 2–3 seconds) prior to electrically disconnecting the device, the device may not be electrically disconnected. In some embodiments, when the device is electrically disconnected from the USB host controller and no system activity of a bus mastering peripheral is occurring, the CPU may enter a low power state if other conditions are met. In some embodiments, if the USB device becomes active after electrically disconnecting, the electrical disconnection may be discontinued.

    • A polygon scanner motor has a polygon mirror having an outer periphery, a mirror surface for scanning light arranged around the outer periphery, and a setting hole having an inner periphery. A rotor has a projection having a plastically deformable edge portion. The polygon mirror is positioned relative to the rotor so that the edge portion of the projection is disposed opposite a surface portion of the inner periphery of the setting hole proximate a center of the inner periphery in the axial direction thereof. The edge portion of the projection is plastically deformed against the surface portion of the inner periphery of the setting hole to thereby connect the polygon mirror to the rotor.

    • A pressing operation while an operation lever is tilted is inhibited by causing an enlarged portion of the operation lever to butt against a stopper. A tilting operation while an operation lever is pressed is inhibited by causing the enlarged portion to butt against the stopper. Therefore, the two operations can not be concurrently performed so that a set switch and a select switch are inhibited from being simultaneously turned on. Furthermore, the operation lever is supported in a tiltable manner by forming support shafts and rotation shafts whose axes perpendicularly intersect each other. Even when foreign substances are trapped in rotation portions of the support shafts and the rotation shafts, therefore, there is little fear that the foreign substances will remain trapped between the mating or contacting portions, thereby ensuring that the operation lever can be tilted smoothly and returned to the neutral position. In addition, a switch matrix ensures that signals from adjacent switches are accurately processed. A switch element also ensures simultaneous activation of circuits to avoid transient signaling errors.
