    • A tape cassette including a rib projecting upwardly from a bottom wall of a cassette case at a position between the center and one side of a tape drawing recess formed at the front of the cassette case, the rib being disposed close to the back surface of the tape, and a projection that projects from a back lid which, in a closed position, protects the back surface of the tape. When the back lid is rotated to reach an open position, the projection is kept in contact with an upper end of the rib. Accordingly, even when a part of the tape is lifted by the back lid during a lid opening operation, the tape is prevented from entering behind the rib, thereby also preventing tape jamming and damage to the tape player.

    • In driving a stepping motor which, for example, is used to effect tracking movements of a head in an electronic still camera or other magnetic disk recording and/or reproducing apparatus, and which has a rotor and a plurality of phases to which input pulses are applied in predetermined sequences for establishing excitation states by which the rotor is stepped to respective positions, the input pulses are controlled for alternating between first and second excitation states corresponding to adjacent stepped positions between which it is desired to bring the rotor to rest. Such alternation is initially effected at a relatively low frequency so that the rotor oscillates between the stepped positions corresponding to the first and second excitation states, respectively, and then the frequency of alternation between the first and second excitation states is gradually increased to a value at which the rotor no longer oscillates with such alternation and comes to rest at a position between the stepped positions. A duty ratio is selected for the first and second excitation states which inversely corresponds to the ratio of the distances from the desired position of rest of the rotor to the stepped positions of the latter corresponding to the first and second excitation states, respectively, and such duty ratio is applied to the alternation between the first and second excitation states at least during the increasing of the frequency of alternation to the value at which the rotor no longer oscillates.

    • An analog-to-digital converter of the successive-approximation type has a successive-approximation logic circuit for successively generating selection signals defined by significant bits in a digital value, a string of high resistance elements to provide voltage dividers for successively dividing a reference voltage into divided voltages, a switch matrix circuit for generating the divided voltages when activated in response to the selection signals, a comparator for successively comparing an analog level with the divided voltages and for generating comparison signals respectively indicative of the significant bits and an output circuit for generating an output digital signal defined by the significant bits when applied with all the comparison signals, the output circuit being associated with the logic circuit for causing it to generate the selection signals in response to the comparison signals. A string of low resistance elements are provided to apply therethrough the reference voltage to at least one of the voltage dividers during a short period of time immediately after the one of the voltage dividers has been activated.
