    • A length measuring apparatus which is capable of calculating an actual distance by measuring length on a map and which has a display section to display the actual distance thus calculated. The length measuring apparatus includes a distance-data input switch for inputting a distance-index data of a scale-reduction scale indicated on the map and a memory for storing length of the scale-reduction scale on the map, which is measured by the rotation of a rolling member. The length measuring apparatus automatically calculated a scale-reduction value for the map from the distance-index data and the length of the scale-reduction scale stored in the memory. Accordingly, a user of the apparatus is not required to input the scale-reduction value for the map by means of keys.

    • A light quantity adjusting method is used for driving a light emitting device with two drive current levels. The drive current levels are controlled by the first set data and the second set data, respectively. First, a resolution ratio and light quantity characteristics are stored. The resolution ratio represents a ratio between a drive current setting resolution of the first set data and a drive current setting resolution of the second set data. The light quantity characteristics represents a relationship between the first set data and a light emission quantity of the light emitting device. A value in the first set data is obtained as a first set value through adjustment for a quantity of light. Next, a change amount, from the first set value in the first set data is calculated using the light quantity characteristics. The calculated change amount is converted into a value in the second set data as a second set value using the resolution ratio.

    • An optical power adjusting method and apparatus for preventing unevenness of exposure of a photosensitive material arising from the difference in wavelength of the light beams. The relationship between the output value and wavelength of the light receiving section is stored in a storage section for a light beam that satisfies the relationship with respect to the optical power and wavelength required for exposing the photosensitive material at a predetermined exposure level. The correspondence between the laser beam emitting section and its wavelength is stored in another storage section. Each laser beam is received separately by the light receiving section, and the optical power of each laser beam is adjusted by the optical power adjusting section such that the output value of the light receiving section for each laser beam received separately satisfies the relationship between the output value and wavelength.
