    • An integrated circuit chip packaging process includes the steps of: (a) preparing a ceramic substrate having sub-substrates, each sub-substrate having connecting pads, and then attaching a respective die on each of the sub-substrates; (b) electrically connecting the dies at the sub-substrates to the pads; (c) putting the die-attached ceramic substrate in a cavity of a first die of a mold, and then closing a second die of the mold on the first die by the way of not contacting the second die to the substrate to form an enclosed mold cavity in the mold, and then filling a molten encapsulating material into the enclosed mold cavity to form a molding on the top side of the substrate so as to encapsulate the sub-substrates and the die at each the sub-substrate.

    • Discriminating between documents scanned in a batch scanning process is achieved based on various analyses of the constituent document pages. The data provided by the various analyses are compared with each other to determine whether successive pages belong to the same document. Scanned documents result in a page sequence. The page sequence is then analyzed to extract one or more features attributes for each page. The feature attributes are provided to a feature comparison process in order to assess the similarity of successive pages. If a sufficient likelihood of similarity is found, then the compared pages are deemed to be from the same document; otherwise, they are deemed to be from different documents, indicating the existence of a document break. Through the display of the page sequence, a user may optionally modify the location of one or more document breaks. Based on the document breaks, separate scan files may be established. In this manner, the present invention represents eliminates the requirement of user intervention.

    • Locking apparatus for a piston and cylinder device includes a locking plunger connected to the piston and disposed between the piston and an end cap of the piston and cylinder device. The locking plunger includes a sleeve which carries a plurality of radially movable ball bearings. As the piston is moved toward an extreme position of the device, the ball bearings contact a spring loaded locking plug disposed in the head of the device, thereby moving the plug away from a first position. The piston and locking plunger continue to move the locking plug away from the first position until the balls are aligned with a circumferential groove or channel in the head. At this point the locking plug is moved to the first position under spring force, in turn moving the ball bearings radially outward into engagement with the channel or groove. The piston and piston rod of the device are thereby locked in position in the absence of fluid pressure. The locking plug includes surfaces against which pressurized fluid acts at the beginning of a return stroke to move the plug away from the first position and release the ball bearings from the channel. The piston is thereby unlocked and is free to move toward the other extreme position of the device.
