    • As regards a surface light source device for use with back-light or the like of a transmissive display panel, the efficiency of the cooling structure for the device will be improved and dust and dirt will be prevented from adhering. The surface-light source device has a housing, a diffuser panel, a reflective plate, lamps, and an electric circuit portion. The housing has a window portion located ahead, a base portion located behind and side portions forming a flat space by connecting the two. The diffuser panel is mounted to the window portion of the housing. The reflective plate is supported by the side portions and partitions the flat space into a closed space ahead and an open space behind to be interposed therebetween. The lamps are housed in the closed space, and are positioned right above the reflective plate and right under the diffuser panel to radiate light toward the diffuser panel. The electric circuit portion is housed in the open space, and is electrically connected to the lamps to light them up. On the side portions of the housing, there are formed openings, through which cooling air supplied from outside is introduced into the open space to diffuse heat accumulated within the housing.

    • A coating method and coating apparatus with which a thin film having a uniform thickness free from stripe or step unevenness of a coating composition is formed at a high speed. An extrusion-type coating head is provided which has a front edge and at least one back edge, the front edge being disposed on the upstream side in the direction of movement of a support, the back edge being disposed on the downstream side in the direction of movement of the support, and the back edge having a top end which is set back stepwise from the front edge in the direction away from the support. Coating is performed under the conditions that the pressure P.sub.c of the coating composition at a point of application of the coating composition onto the support is in a range of 0.ltoreq.P.sub.c .ltoreq.0.25 kgw/cm.sup.2, while liquid sealing is obtained with a composition mainly containing an organic solvent applied in advance to a coating surface of the support. The ratio of t.sub.1 /t.sub.0 satisfies the relation 0.2.ltoreq.t.sub.1 /t.sub.2 .ltoreq.20, where t.sub.0 represents the thickness of the coating composition before drying just after coating, and t.sub.1 represents the length of a perpendicular line from the top end of the most downstream side back edge to a tangent drawn between the front edge and a conveyance roll on the downstream side of the coating head.

    • An optical printer head for a recording apparatus which records an image on a photoconductive material is disclosed. The optical printer head confronts the photoconductive material. The optical printer head has a transparent substrate, a cathode unit for emitting electrons and an anode unit for receiving the electrons emitted from the cathode unit. The anode unit is formed of transparent conductive film and provided on the transparent substrate. A phosphor unit is provided on the anode. When the phosphor unit emits light resulting from impingement of electrons which are directed from the cathode unit to the anode unit, light emitted from the phosphor unit is transmitted through the transparent substrate and the anode. A grid is provided for attracting electrons from the cathode toward the phosphor unit. A lens is provided in the substrate for focusing the light emitted by the phosphor unit. An evacuated enclosure surrounds the cathode unit, the grid, the phosphor unit, and the anode unit.
