    • A recording/reproducing device performs the recording/reproduction on a recording medium having an information recording area and a table of contents area. The recording medium is provided with guiding grooves that snake in cycles corresponding to values of absolute addresses. The device divides the information recording area into a plurality of domains. Each domain corresponds to a single sampling frequency with respect to the information being recorded. An electromagnet and an optical head record information in the domain that corresponds to its sampling frequency and records additional information concerning the division in the table of contents. A spindle motor drives the disk which is adjusted such that the velocity of the disk is changed for each domain during recording and reproduction. A demodulator obtains the absolute addresses through demodulation by comparing frequencies determined from the snaking cycles of the guiding grooves with a reference frequency. An operational circuit converts the demodulated absolute addresses in accordance with the velocity of the disk into corrected absolute addresses that represented the period of time which has elapsed since the starting time. As a result, the burden imposed on the spindle motor is relieved, the demodulation of the absolute addresses may be executed accurately even when the rotational speed of the disk varies, and the time elapsed since the start of the recording/reproduction may be determined.

    • A feedback control apparatus in an optical recording and reproducing device for recording, reproducing and/or erasing data from an optical recording medium projects a light beam emitted from an optical head onto the optical recording medium. The apparatus includes an actuator for controlling the illuminating conditions of the light beam projected onto the optical recording medium, a detection unit for detecting the illuminating conditions of the light beam projected onto the optical recording medium, and a control amplifier for driving the actuator in accordance with a detection signal outputted from the detection unit, thereby controlling the illuminating conditions of the light beam projected onto the recording medium. The apparatus further includes a switching device for selectively switching from a detection signal from the detection unit to a reference signal, or vice versa, and for inputting into the control amplifier, the reference signal having the same signal level as that of a detection signal which is expected to be outputted from the detection unit when the illuminating conditions of the light beam projected onto the recording medium are appropriate. An offset compensation device outputs an offset compensation signal to the control amplifier. The offset compensation signal is set such that a control signal generated in the control amplifier has a predetermined signal level when the reference signal is inputted into the control amplifier. The apparatus prevents a DC offset from being included in the control signal from the control amplifier and reduces the procedures required for adjustment during the manufacturing process without employing expensive parts and devices and the like, thereby lowering the production costs.

    • A machine tool capable of detecting an ambient temperature change without a detector for detecting the ambient temperature and capable of detecting an abnormality of a temperature detector for detecting the motor temperature. Difference ΔTi between the estimated motor temperature Tmi and the detected temperature Tsi is obtained. When difference between maximum and minimum values of difference ΔTi exceeds the first threshold value β, a temperature detector abnormality is outputted. When it is equal to or less than the first threshold value β, the mean value ΔT′ of differences is obtained. If the mean value ΔT′ is equal to or less than the second threshold value γ, it is determined that there is no abnormality. If it is equal to or more than the second threshold value γ, the indication that the ambient temperature has been changed is outputted.

    • A fixed first sleeve and a movable second sleeve are arranged in a center through hole of a main spindle.
