    • A plasma addressing display device of the present invention includes: a plasma addressing substrate; a color filter substrate; and a display medium layer interposed between the plasma addressing substrate and the color filter substrate is provided. The plasma addressing substrate includes: a first substrate; a dielectric sheet provided near the display medium layer; a plurality of electrode lines provided at regular intervals on the first substrate; a plurality of partition walls provided respectively on the plurality of electrode lines; and a plurality of strip plasma discharge channels each enclosed by the first substrate, the dielectric sheet and the partition walls. The color filter substrate includes: a second substrate; a color filter layer provided on the second substrate; a plurality of strip electrodes provided on the color filter layer so as to extend in a direction orthogonal to the plurality of strip plasma discharge channels. A picture element is defined by a region where adjacent two of the plasma discharge channels overlap one of the plurality of strip electrodes.

    • The present invention provides an electromagnetic field generating element, an information recording/reproducing head, and an information recording/reproducing apparatus. The electromagnetic field generating element makes it possible to restrain magnetic field attenuation or magnetic field delay in a high frequency recording/reproducing head for use in thermally assisted magnetic field recording/reproduction using a near field. The information recording/reproducing head and the information recording/reproducing apparatus can carry out high frequency magnetic recording/reproducing.The electromagnetic field generating element of the present invention includes: (i) a substrate, (ii) conductors each provided on the substrate and each serving as a supporting section, (iii) a plate-like-shaped conductor provided on the conductors and (iv) a semiconductor laser element provided on the substrate. The semiconductor laser element irradiated, to the plate-like-shaped conductor, laser light substantially parallel to an extending flat surface of the plate-like-shaped conductor. This causes generation of the near field in the plate-like-shaped conductor. Moreover, a magnetic field is generated by supplying a current to the plate-like-shaped conductor.

    • A media selecting device enabling a user to easily select any desired one of a plurality of selectable media. The media selecting device according to the present invention can easily select any one of a plurality of hierarchically-related icons by turning a rotary disk-type knob. The user presses a first change-over button to access the icon selected by the disk-type knob, and to display icons of a lower hierarchical layer or to display a deciding medium represented by icons. The user can press a second change-over button to cancel the selected icon, and to display icons of an upper hierarchical layer. Furthermore, the displayed icons have different three-dimensional shape and location information, and are disposed in a three-dimensional virtual space, thus increasing visibility and control of the device.

    • A recording/reproducing device performs the recording/reproduction on a recording medium having an information recording area and a table of contents area. The recording medium is provided with guiding grooves that snake in cycles corresponding to values of absolute addresses. The device divides the information recording area into a plurality of domains. Each domain corresponds to a single sampling frequency with respect to the information being recorded. An electromagnet and an optical head record information in the domain that corresponds to its sampling frequency and records additional information concerning the division in the table of contents. A spindle motor drives the disk which is adjusted such that the velocity of the disk is changed for each domain during recording and reproduction. A demodulator obtains the absolute addresses through demodulation by comparing frequencies determined from the snaking cycles of the guiding grooves with a reference frequency. An operational circuit converts the demodulated absolute addresses in accordance with the velocity of the disk into corrected absolute addresses that represented the period of time which has elapsed since the starting time. As a result, the burden imposed on the spindle motor is relieved, the demodulation of the absolute addresses may be executed accurately even when the rotational speed of the disk varies, and the time elapsed since the start of the recording/reproduction may be determined.
