    • A system includes a data acquisition system, a data storage, and a data processing system. The data acquisition system is operable to acquire energy consumption data from a plurality of electricity meters. The storage device is operable to store at least some of the acquired energy consumption data. The data processing system is operably coupled to the storage device, and is operable to receive information corresponding to a provider of energy and at least one entity that receives the energy from the provider. The data processing system is further operable to form a tree comprised of a root node and at least one leaf node emanating from the root node, the root node corresponding to the provider and the at least one leaf node corresponding to the at least one entity. The data processing system is also operable to associate energy consumption data with at least one node of the tree, and associate at least some of the received information corresponding to the provider and the at least one entity with the root nodes and the at least one leaf node, respectively. The data processing system is further operable to associate actions relating to the providing of one of the utility commodity with each of the nodes based on the received information associated therewith.

    • An optical signal control system is constructed from a portion of a material and allows for controlled amount of negative dispersion to be generated across a broadband input signal. The block may be made of a single portion of the material and have surfaces with reflective, transmissive, and/or diffractive optical characteristics. By adjusting the physical dimensions of the block substrate and the line pitch of a diffraction grating etched into a surface of the block, the magnitude of the dispersion can be varied. Laser systems that utilize the optical signal control system may have reduced size and weight as compared to existing compressors and be more robust against misalignment.

    • A method for producing a chewing gum, as well as the chewing gum so produced, incorporates a physiological cooling agent, such as acyclic carboxamide, or combinations of physiological cooling agents. In another embodiment a combination of physiological cooling agents is made in a modified release structure. The modified release/cooling agents combination is preferably obtained by physically modifying the properties of the combination of cooling agents by coating and drying. When incorporated into gum, these particles are adapted to enhance the shelf stability of the flavor and/or produce a modified release when the gum is chewed. In another embodiment, the physiological cooling agent is present with menthol and menthone. In another embodiment, coated chewing gum has a coating that comprises a physiological cooling agent. The preferred inventive chewing gum provides a high flavor impact in which the harsh notes normally associated with such a high flavor impact have been reduced or eliminated. In addition, the preferred inventive gum provides a clean, high-quality, cooling chewing gum coating with xylitol or other polyols where xylitol has been reduced in concentration or eliminated.

    • A flexible, reconfigurable processing system architecture allows for the implementation of a variety of processing system configurations to be implemented on a single device, which is preferably a PCI bus add-in extension board with an attached daughter card attached and electrically connected thereto through a PCI Mezzanine type connector, and which is plugged into a personal computer PCI expansion slot. The architecture uses the PCI bus, for example, as the local CPU bus for an embedded processor, which not only allows for flexibility in system configuration but also allows PCI devices to be hidden from the host CPU to allow for proper system startup. The architecture further permits an embedded processing CPU to be re-booted when the secondary PCI bus host bus bridge fails to respond without affecting host CPU or other secondary PCI bus peripheral devices. The architecture provides a method of loading an embedded system CPU's local memory with operating system and diagnostic code without the use of ROM or FLASH memory. A system and method of reserving memory is also disclosed which utilizes a dummy or surrogate board with little of no functionality but which has a class code of a common device such as an Ethernet card. The primary system BIOS will read the class code and reserve memory based on the surrogate card. The driver of the non-standard card such as an embedded processor, can then use the memory space allocated to the surrogate card by the BIOS.
