    • An apparatus for a circuit which allows a user to connect various adaptors to a common interface to provide a device with power and data signals. The circuit may provide a device, in which the circuit is incorporated, with the ability to discern whether a connected adaptor is providing power or data at any given time. If the adaptor is providing power at a particular moment, then the power/data circuit can identify that power is being provided and signal the device to accept power.     • The present invention provides a digital oscilloscope with glitch detection, including a synchronous random access memory (RAM), a digital signal processing unit, coupled to the synchronous RAM, and a master control unit coupled to the digital signal processing unit. The digital signal processing unit includes an analog-to-digital (A/D) converter to digitize an analog signal and a digital signal processor. The digital signal processor includes a dual-port RAM, a plurality of processing blocks to process the digitized analog signal data, detect glitches in the digitized analog signal data, store the processed signal data in the synchronous RAM, create display data from the stored signal data, and store the display data in the dual-port RAM, and a communications interface to transmit the stored display data. The master control unit includes an internal communications interface coupled to the digital signal processor communications interface, an external communications interface, and a central processing unit to receive the display data over the internal communications interface and transmit the display data over the external communications interface.

    • Exemplary embodiments of off-board tools (OBTS) may be used in vehicle inspection maintenance programs are provided. The OBT may include a processor, vehicle communication circuitry for linking to a vehicle diagnostic system, host interface circuitry for communicating with a host computer, and voltage determination circuitry for measuring a voltage through the vehicle diagnostic system. The OBT may include logic for storing a communications protocol used to link with a vehicle diagnostic system that is preferably used for re-establishing dropped communications links. In addition, the OBT may contain logic for testing at least one component of a starting and/or charging system of a vehicle. Still other embodiments may include logic for sending unsolicited messages to a host computer. Additional embodiments may include logic for determining the minimum number of messages that must be received by an OBT.
