    • An anode-fitting assembly for use in hot water tanks, pipelines or the like wherein an interior metallic surface undergoes corrosion when exposed to electrolytic fluids such as air and water. The fitting element of the assembly is comprised of a hollow nipple or connector member adapted to be threadedly received within an opening of the water tank, pipeline or the like. A tubular intermediate member extends from the nipple. An impervious electrically insulating plastic covering is provided on the exposed external surface of the tubular intermediate member. The anode element is comprised of a cylindrical electrode telescoped within the tubular intermediate member of the fitting and secured thereto by joining means that permits the anode element to be assembled to the fitting element at any convenient time after assembly of the fitting and prior to installation of the anode-fitting assembly in the water tank, pipeline or the like. In the preferred embodiment an impervious fluid passageway is provided within the fitting element such that the anode-fitting assembly may be used as an anode holder and fluid outlet.

    • A gas riser apparatus having an O-ring sealing arrangement according to the present invention provides improved sealing between an inner pipe and an outer pipe of the riser apparatus. The riser apparatus includes an inner plastic pipe having one or more grooves for receiving resilient sealing members. A plurality of O-rings are disposed within one annular groove and an outer metal pipe is telescoped over the plastic pipe. An annular crimp extends around the outer metal pipe at a location of the plurality of O-rings and forms a seal between an inner surface of the metal pipe and an exterior of the plastic pipe by compressing the O-rings. This O-ring seal configuration provides substantially improved low temperature sealing.

    • Apparatus and method for tapping a tubular member includes a split ring type clamp arrangement having a tapping tee assembly extending therefrom. The clamp arrangement includes a combination alignment/hold structure to facilitate orientation of the clamp arrangement with the tubular member. A combination valve and cutting tool cooperates with the tapping tee assembly. An annular cutting surface on the tool has a first diameter for cutting an aperture in the tubular member. An annular, conical flange portion on the exterior of the tool spreads the aperture to a diameter greater than the first diameter, while a sealing land on the cutting tool has a second diameter larger than the first diameter and is adapted for close receipt in the aperture. A radial shoulder engages an internal surface of the tubular member for securely clamping and sealing the tapping tee assembly thereto. A second portion of the combination valve and cutting tool is removed from a first portion to thereby open a continuous flow passage from the tubular member to the tapping tee assembly. In another preferred embodiment, the first and second portions are retained together and adapted for relative movement.

    • The angle cock valve has all plastic parts to prevent galvanic corrosion when used in hot water tanks and the like. The valve includes a valve body, a valve stem and a stem retainer. The valve body has an inlet bore, an outlet bore, and a valve stem receiving bore disposed in fluid communication with each other. The inlet and valve stem receiving bores taken together form a linear bore for allowing a rod to pass into the water tank to dislodge accumulated sediment. An annular seat is disposed between the inlet and outlet bores. The valve stem has an enlarged handle portion at one end and a detent for mounting a seat seal at the other end. The valve stem and the stem receiving bore are threaded to enable the seat seal to be selectively moved longitudinally against the annular seat. A pair of annular ridges receive an annular seal. Facing the handle portion, the ridges have a generally transverse surface. The stem retainer is mounted on the exterior of the valve body. It has a projection which extends through an aperture into the valve stem receiving bore for selectively engaging the transverse surface to limit longitudinal movement of the valve stem. A spring segment resiliently urges the projection into the aperture. A grip portion enables the spring segment to be flexed and the projection withdrawn from the aperture. When the projection is withdrawn, the valve stem may be removed from the valve stem receiving bore.

    • A stab-type coupling and method for connecting an end portion of a smooth wall non-metallic pipe to fittings or other pipes. The coupling is defined by a non-metallic coupling body, a generally elongated hollow insert, annular spacer rings, seal rings, a collet ring, and a retaining collet all disposed within the recess of the coupling body. The retaining collet is provided with a tapered external surface which is complementary to an internal frusto-conical surface defined by a back-up ring molded within the coupling body. The coupling is made up as by inserting the end of a smooth wall non-metallic pipe into the coupling body such that the pipe is received about the generally elongated hollow insert and within the retaining collet. The toothed internal surface of the retaining collet is adapted to engage the non-metallic pipe. Attempted withdrawal of the pipe from the coupling body is resisted by the collet toothed surface as well as the bearing engagement of the collet with the back-up ring molded into the coupling body.
