    • A traction control assembly for connection between a monorail bogie frame and a monorail car. The traction control assembly comprising a first traction link pivotally connected to a first bell crank mechanism and a second traction link pivotally connected to a second bell crank mechanism. The first traction link and the second traction link are capable of absorbing traction forces applied to the monorail bogie. The steering assist device causes the traction control assembly to insert shear forces on the monorail bogie during travel of the monorail bogie over a curved section of monorail track for facilitating rotational motion between the monorail bogie and the monorail car.

    • A transportation system is disclosed that includes a monorail (or other vehicle) along a column-supported rail wherein a linear induction motor's (‘LIM’) connection to an assembly, to which the monorail/vehicle is attached, enables the LIM to essentially assist an air bearing, positioned between the rail and assembly, such that less air pressure is required. In some embodiments, a control system assists in adjusting the air pressure supplied—e.g., based on LIM data and/or weight (of vehicle and/or cargo). Further disclosed is a compliant air bearing that minimizes air loss during vertical and lateral curves, including embodiments where the air bearing is positioned relative to the rail such that a plenum area is smaller than a semi-enclosed cavity area. Additionally disclosed is a brake system that includes a brake pad attached to the air bearing that is engageable without the need to adjust the air bearing's air pressure.

The width of the track between the two sides varies such as to maintain a tolerance better than 0.05 mm between the bearing wheels and the respective sides of the track. The load capacity of the carriage can be increased and centred by making the single bearing 12 larger than the other two bearing wheels 13 and 14. The track 1 may be machined in one piece, optionally with an integral base plate. In another embodiment the track has spaced inner and outer sections with a rack engaged by a drive pinion mounted on the carriage between the two sections.
