    • A multi-purpose film handling cassette adapted for use with a motion picture camera and projector of the type including a film transport mechanism for progressively transporting an incremental section of a film strip, stored on a supply reel within the cassette, past a cassette exposure and projection station. The cassette is provided with a film tension regulator for establishing a feed loop of film strip between the supply reel and the exposure and projection station to isolate that portion of the film strip near the exposure and projection station from the inertial drag of the supply reel thereby preventing the film transport mechanism from applying excessive pressure to the film strip. The tension regulator is also configured to guide the film strip onto the supply reel in a manner which precludes disturbing a coating of liquid processing composition applied to the film strip during a processing mode of operation.

    • A photographic paper accommodating apparatus is disposed between a photographic paper printing section and a developing section so as to absorb or retain the slack in a continuous photographic paper fed from the former to the latter which occurs due to a difference between the respective processing speeds at these sections. First clamping and transporting rollers are provided on the downstream side of the printing section so as to define a first photographic paper looping area between the printing section and the first clamping and transporting rollers. Second clamping and transporting rollers are provided on the downstream side of the first clamping and transporting rollers so as to define a second photographic paper looping area between the first and second clamping and transporting rollers. A guide member is movable between a first position at which it guides the photographic paper from the printing section to the first clamping and transporting rollers and a second position at which the guide member guides the paper from the first clamping and transporting rollers to the second clamping and transporting rollers. Accordingly, when the exposure operation at the printing section is resumed after the photographic paper has been cut to suspend the operation, the trailing end portion of the cut photographic paper which has been exposed before the resumption of the operation can be accommodated in the second looping area, and the leading end portion of the following section of the paper exposed after the resumption of the operation can be accommodated in the first looping section.

    • An apparatus is described herein which when used in conjunction with a continuous film duplicator or printer, stores and transports micrographic, motion picture, and other masters during the printing cycle to eliminate rewinding when making multiple duplicate copies. The apparatus is modular utilizing a pair of carriages so that it may be expanded either horizontally or vertically to accommodate more footage. A single motor is employed to adjust the spacing between top and bottom roller sets disposed on the carriages for various lengths of film while a three-position sensor arm controls the motor. A slack sensor controls the speed of rollers mounted on shafts on the carriages and a motor drives each shaft controlled by the sensor. Low-mass plastic film rollers equipped with soft-touch rubber surfaces are employed for transporting the film and low inertia PM motors provide high acceleration and torque for driving the shafts. A transparent enclosure houses the above mechanisms and film that travels through the enclosure and suitable electronic circuitry is provided for sensing, driving, and controlling the various functions while operating at speeds up to and exceeding 1500 ft/min.

    • A film loop size control is described for use in a camera in which the films advanced intermittently past an image recording station by a first drive means and advanced continuously past a sound recording station by a second drive means. A detector which senses the size of the film loop between the image recording station and the sound recording station causes a control means to actuate only the second drive means whenever the detector senses a slack film loop when the film is stationary. The second drive means then advances the film past the sound recording station to remove the slack from the film loop. When the detector senses an absence of slack in the film, the control means de-actuates the second drive means. A switch is included which is adapted to be actuated when the film slack has been reduced for actuating both the first and the second drive means for advancing the film past the image recording station and the sound recording station.

    • Disclosed is a sound motion picture projection apparatus in which a head pad is urged by a spring member toward a film pressing position at which position the head pad presses a film against a magnetic head disposed along the sound recording and reproducing film path. The apparatus has a set mechanism of the self-holding type which sets the head pad against the urging force of the spring member to a film pressure releasing position at which position the head pad releases the pressing of the film, by the driving force of a driving motor and keeps the head pad to that position. The apparatus further has a film detecting member which is disposed in said sound film path after the magnetic head and operatively connected with the set mechanism in such a manner that the holding of the head pad at the film pressure releasing position by means of the set mechanism is released when the film detecting member detects the film introduced into the sound film path and thereafter the setting operation of the set mechanism is made ineffective as long as the film detecting member detects that a film exists in the sound film path. Thereby when the set mechanism is driven by the driving motor when no film exists at least in the sound film path, the head pad is automatically set to the film pressure releasing position and then the head pad is automatically changed from the film pressure releasing position to the film pressing position when the film detecting member detects the introduction of the film into the sound film path.
