    • Complex pigment compositions for the coating of paper, comprising an aqueous phase, at least one pigment of mineral origin, a binding agent, optionally various customary additives, and a dispersing agent comprised of carboxyl-containing polymers which are water soluble and are converted to form salts. The polymers are obtained by known polymerization processes. The dispersing agent(a) has a specific viscosity (measured on the sodium salt) of between 0.25 and 2; and(b) is converted to the salt form to the extent of at least 60% by at least one salt-forming agent which has a polyvalent function.These complex pigment compositions have very low viscosities. They may also simultaneously contain diverse pigments, such as kaolin, titanium dioxode, and calcium carbonate, without suffering the usual increase in viscosity and the risk of setting.

    • The oxidation of 7,14-diphenylacenaphtho[1,2-.kappa.]fluoranthene (1) at platinum or indium tin-oxide electrodes leads to deposition of a polymer film on the electrode surface that displays many interesting properties including electroactivity, fluorescence, and electrochromism. Thin films of this polymer appear deep blue in the neutral state, but become pale grey upon oxidation and light green or orange upon reduction, depending upon the voltage applied. Soluble oligomers of poly(3,10-(7,14-diphenylacenaphtho[1,2-.kappa.]fluoranthene)) are formed during oxidation of the monomer (1) via radical cation-radical cation coupling reactions and are identical to those chemically synthesized by the Ni(0)-catalyzed coupling of the 3,10-dibromo derivative of 1. Further oxidation of these oligomers leads to intramolecular coupling reactions to form ladder structures within the chains and the eventual precipitation of insoluble polymer onto the electrode. Spectroscopic and electrochemical data for the polymer film and the isolated oligomers is presented.

    • An improvement in a process for the preparation of a solvent-free exclusively aqueous dispersion of a thermally linkable, storage stable, light stable polyurethane obtained by the reaction of a hydroxy group containing polyester composition and a diisocyanate in a ketonic solvent at 10.degree.-50.degree. C. employing the hydroxyl containing polyester and diisocyanate in amounts such that there are 1.5-2.0 NCO equivalents per OH group and the reaction product is thereafter reacted with a primary diamine, secondary diamine or diol in such an amount that 30-70% of the existing free NCO groups on said reaction product are reacted and the resultant reaction product is dispersed in water and said ketonic solvent is removed. The invention resides in that one uses as diisocyanate the uretdione of the 3-isocyanatomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexyl-isocyanate.
