    • A device for protection against voltage surges comprises a stationary electrode and a movable electrode arranged facing an arc extinguishing chamber. The movable electrode is driven by a mechanisms, by an electromechanical actuator and/or by an electromagnetic circuit. At rest, the movable electrode is situated at a distance from the stationary electrode. When a voltage surge occurs between the electrodes, an arc arises and extends in the chamber in which it is extinguished. If the arc continues, in particular in the case of a follow current of high energy, the movable electrode is driven to a disconnected position moving away from the stationary electrode, which has the effect of lengthening the arc even more in the chamber to facilitate its extinction and perform disconnection of the circuit. A pair of contacts may be associated in series to the electrodes, one of the contacts being stationary and the other being fixedly secured to the movable electrode. A spark gap can also be associated to the electrodes.

    • A circuit breaker includes a housing having first and second openings, with stationary and movable separable contacts disposed therein. An operating mechanism is disposed in the housing, is coupled to the separable contacts and is structured to move those contacts between open and closed positions. A trip mechanism is disposed in the housing and cooperates with the operating mechanism to trip open the separable contacts. A slot motor assembly is disposed about the separable contacts and has upper and lower slot motor portions. The upper slot motor portion is disposed above the movable contact and the lower slot motor portion is disposed below the stationary contact. The upper slot motor portion includes a rigid, laminated steel member having a general U-shape, with a bight portion, and first and second legs. The first and second legs engage the housing at the respective first and second openings.

    • An upper slot motor assembly for a circuit breaker slot motor assembly where the upper slot motor assembly includes a housing assembly and a plurality of plates, and the plates generally correspond to the shape of the housing assembly. The house assembly has a U-shape with a bight, a first and second leg, and a gap between said legs. The gap has a narrow portion and a wide portion. When installed about the circuit breaker separable contacts, the gap narrow portion is located near the stationary contact and the gap wide portion is located near the movable contact when the movable contact is in the open position.

    • A molded case circuit breaker is provided. Key blocks with a key shaped projection along one side are received in key shaped grooves in the sidewalls of the base. The kay shaped projections and the key shaped grooves may be formed as a dovetail connection. These key blocks provide support for the sidewalls from forces resulting from relatively high overcurrent conditions, such as a short circuit condition. In addition to supporting the sidewalls, the key blocks also form a barrier between the main contacts and other components in the circuit breaker to reduce the amount of arc products allowed to interact with the other components in the circuit breaker. The key block also form a stop surface for capturing the arc chutes to prevent movement of the arc chutes along the longitudinal axis of the circuit breaker. Lastly, the key blocks also hold the insulation barrier on the line conductor in place, thus obviating the need to use adhesives.
