    • A timing circuit receives substantially square wave clock signals and generates sine and cos driving signals therefrom at a predetermined frequency for application to first and second mutually perpendicular Hall effect generators. The output signals from the Hall effect generators are algebraically summed to provide a heading signal, the phase displacement of which with respect to the driving signals, is representaive of the orientation angle between one of the Hall effect generators and magnetic north. A counter is synchronized to begin to count clock pulses at the beginning of each period of the driving signals. A logic circuit is effective to disable the counter when the Count signal therein is representative of the orientation angle. The sine and cos of the Count signal are derived and each is multiplied by a distance signal related to the number of revolutions of a wheel of the vehicle being monitored. The resulting coordinate signals are stored in X and Y registers which are automatically updated when the vehicle approaches transmitters at predetermined locations.

    • Method and apparatus for locating an outdoor position and determining course and distance therefrom to another position, including, in a field area, determining and making as a fix at the center of a circular chart marked off in square miles and girded by a 360* protractor of a first known base position with the exact direction and location of landmarks therefrom plotted, determining and plotting a second known fixed position a predetermined distance and direction from the first position, with the exact location and direction of the same landmarks therefrom plotted on the chart to fix all relative positions and thereby develop an area map, and apparatus usable for field readings on the established and plotted landmarks from a position remote from a base camp position for plotting a new field position on the map whereby a user can pinpoint such remote position, and determine courses and distances from the remote position to a second desired position on the map or to the base camp.

    • A position locator or homing device for use by fishermen, divers, etc, includes a view finder for directly observing one landmark and adjustable mirrors for reflecting images of other landmarks into the view finder for simultaneous viewing of three landmarks. The position locator also includes scales for recording the angular position of the reflected landmarks to enable pre-setting the adjustable mirrors at the recorded angle so that the user can subsequently find the position of the previous fix. Hairline indicator pins mounted on swing arms and spaced from the mirrors enable accurate recording of the relative angular position of the reflected landmarks and are employed to subsequently locate the position of the fix.
