    • The present invention provides a system for generating an end of travel feedback to the driver of a vehicle where the vehicle includes a steer by wire system. The system includes a steering wheel, a steering shaft, a motor, and a clutch. The steering wheel is configured to control the steer by wire system. The steering shaft is coupled to the steering wheel and rotates in conjunction with the steering wheel. To provide road feel resistance to the driver, the motor is coupled to the steering shaft. Further, the clutch is configured to mechanically couple the steering shaft to the road wheel to provide mechanical resistance when the road wheel is at an end of travel position.

    • A steer-by-wire system uses a semi-active actuator in which a wheel steering motor operates vehicle wheels when a steering wheel is rotated. The steering system includes: a steering operator unit having a steering column with one end vertically connected to the center of the steering wheel, a torsion spring connected between the other end of the steering column and a vehicle body via jigs mounted to both ends thereof, a magneto-rheological brake for providing steering reaction force according to the amount of current, and rotation angle sensor coupled with one end of the steering column for detecting rotation of the steering wheel, and a torque sensor coupled with one end of the steering column for detecting torque of the steering wheel; a current regulator for controlling resistance force against rotation of the magneto-rheological brake.581 A controller is provided for controlling the current regulator according to torque data from the torque sensor, and controlling the wheel steering motor according to rotational displacement data from the rotation angle sensor.

    • A drive-by wire steering system is provided. The system comprises a steering shaft and a center feel mechanism. The steering shaft is configured for a first angular displacement about a first axis. The steering shaft has a first geared portion and a first end connectable to a vehicle's steering wheel. The center feel mechanism comprises a cam face, an urging member and a second geared portion. The first geared portion and the second geared portion are operatively engaged such that the first angular displacement of the steering shaft imparts a second angular displacement about a second axis to the center feel mechanism. The cam face and the urging member are configured to generate a retuning torque to the center feel mechanism. The retuning torque has a direction opposite the second angular displacement.

    • A steering apparatus includes a user-actuable steering-angle input device with an associated steering shaft, a steering-angle setting device coupled nonmechanically to the steering-angle input device and a reaction torque device which is coupled to the steering shaft. The reaction torque device produces a reaction torque mechanically and has at least one element which can be deflected elastically in a linear manner and is coupled to the mechanism by a driver unit acting axle steering shaft. In certain embodiments, a steering-shaft pinion and a rack which is coupled to the latter serves as a piston rod for at least one piston that can be deflected elastically in a linear manner. The at least one piston is guided in axially moveable fashion in a cylinder and, together with the piston rod, forms the driver unit. Alternatively, the mechanism can contain an eccentric disc which is coupled rotatably to the steering shaft and against the outer circumference of which there rests the end of a piston rod of a piston guided in axially moveable fashion in a cylinder.
