    • The invention relates to a method for shaping an essentially flat-surfaced blank (10) to form a shell body (34), comprising the following steps: forming at least one flat-surfaced, buckling-stable insert (12) which is adapted to form, dimension and deformation properties of the flat-surfaced blank (10); forming a blank (14) to be deformed and at least one buckling-stable insert (16, 16′, 16″) to be deformed from the flat-surfaced blank (10, 10′) and the at least one flat-surfaced buckling-stable insert (12, 12′); placing and clamping the blank (14) to be deformed and the at least one buckling-stable insert (16, 16′, 16″) relative to one another and deforming the blank (14) together with the at least one buckling-stable insert (16, 16′, 16″) to be deformed in order to form the shell body, using at least one forming tool (32) that acts upon the front or inner side (20) of the blank (14) to be deformed or the at least one insert (16) to be deformed which is provided as a support. The invention also relates to the use of said shell body (34) to produce rotationally symmetric and/or not rotationally symmetric shell-shaped components.

    • A plate member (10) is mounted on a supporting frame (11). The periphery of the plate member (10) is firmly secured by a clamp (12) and a concave die-shaped lower pushing member (13) is caused to rise from below. The lower pushing member (13) is provided with a forming concave area (15) and a forming convex area (16). Disposed above the plate member (10) is a bar-shaped upper pushing member (20) which is lowered to push against the plate member (10). In such a condition, the plate member (10) is caused to rise together with the lower pushing member (13) and move in the directions of X and Y to form convex areas (17) and (18) within the forming concave area (15) and the forming convex area (16). The upper pushing member (20) is provided with a main body (21) of high rigidity and a flexible member (22). The flexible member (22) is formed in a hemispherical shape and made of material more elastic than the main body (21) which is made of hard polyurethane or the like, thereby making spherical contact with the plate member (10).

    • In a spinning machine for shaping a blank into a product of a desired configuration without using a metal mold, there are provided a rotary shaft, a push rod, the rotary shaft and push rod cooperating to clamp therebetween a flat plate shaped blank for rotating the same, a back-up roller having a peripheral contour conforming to a portion of the inside contour of a spinned product, means to urge the back-up roller against one side of the blank, means to move the back-up roller along a predetermined path conforming to the inside contour of the product, a work roll having a working edge of smaller radius of curvature than said back-up roller, means to urge the work roll against the opposite side of the blank with a predtermined definite axial spacing between the work roll and the back-up roller and means for moving the work roll to follow the movement of the back-up roller while maintaining the definite axial spacing with respect to the back-up roller.
