    • A device is provided for use in a camera utilizing selfdeveloping film. The film in question comprises a rupturable pod of processing liquid which is sandwiched betwen a pair of photographic sheets. Attached to the exterior of one of the sheets and disposed adjacent the leading end thereof is an elongated removable feeder tab. The device is disposed within the camera and includes a pair of elongated spreader members which are biased towards one another to assume a substantially superposed relation and define an longated predetermined minimum gap through which the photographic sheets and the pod, when in a collapsed state, are caused to move. As the film moves through the gap, the pos is ruptured and the processing liquid uniformly spread between the sheets. Compression means are disposed adjacent the infeed side of the gap and provide uninterrupted pressure on the opposite marginal segments of the film sheets. Compressive pressure is continuously exerted along a wide uninterrupted band on opposite marginal segments of the film from a location substantially upstream of the spreader members into the gap between the spreader members and thereby confining the spread of the processing liquid to between the compressed wide bands formed on the marginal segments. Portions of the compression means extend into the gap and engae the film while the latter is moving therethrough. The device includes a guide means which is disposed adjacent the infeed side of the gap and directs the leading end of the film into the gap. The feeder tab carried by one of the photographic sheets is positioned over the guide member so as to circumvent the gap. The feeder tab projects outwardly from the camera housing and, as it is manually pulled therefrom, the feeder tab will cause the leading ends of the photographic sheets to pass through the gap and extend outwardly from the camera housing whereupon they may be grasped for manual pulling of the remainder of the film through the gap.

    • A view finder is provided for a camera wherein the latter is adapted to accommodate film cartridges or packets of two different sizes. The viewfinder is carried on the camera and is adapted to automatically vary by means of an adjustably mounted masking piece the size of the viewing area to be observed through the viewfinder so as to coordinate same with the size film being used in the camera. The adjustment of the masking piece is effected during loading of a given size film cartridge into the camera. Thus, the viewfinder facilitates proper manual aligning of the camera lens with the subject being photographed.

    • In the apparatus disclosed, three dichroic filters partially intercept a white light beam emerging from a light source having an elliptical reflector with a focal point at the location of the filters. The filters thus divide the beam into a white portion and an intensely colored portion. The beam enters a mixing chamber through a porthole and strikes a slanted white-opaque ceiling to form a hyperbolic section. White-opaque sidewalls coact with the ceiling to mix the white and intensely colored light. The light exists through a diffuser at the bottom of the chamber so that it can be used to illuminate a color negative in a color enlarger which focuses the light on printing paper. A cylindrical mirror at the entrance porthole reflects a part of the marginal portion of the colored part of the beam toward the white side while reflecting part of the white light into the intensely colored light. This allows the mixing chamber to blend the light and avoid a color wedging effect on the print. The diffuser at the exit of the chamber tapers from a thick center outwardly toward thinner edges. Thus, the diffuser scatters more of the light at its center and transmits more at its edges. This compensates for falloff of intensity from center to outside. The scattering of light within the diffuser causes unused light to reenter the chamber for further mixing. A matte finish on the bottom of the diffuser prevents the light which is reflected by a carrier holding the film from being rereflected onto the edges of the film.

    • The disclosed apparatus forms part of the lamp house in a photographic enlarger. Three dichroic filters partially intercept a white light beam emerging from a light source having an elliptical reflector. The filters divide the beam into a white portion and an intensely colored portion. The beam enters a mixing chamber wherein white-opaque side walls and a ceiling coact with each other to mix the white and intensely colored light. The light exits through a diffuser at the bottom of the chamber and passes through a color slide or negative having a color image. An optical system focuses the image on printing paper. Three pivotally mounted filter holders support the filters in their respective positions. Three cams movable by manually adjustable wheels control the positions of the holders. A control arm engageable with all three of the holders simultaneously draws the filter holders out of engagement with the cams until the filters are removed from the beam. A regulating arm moves an attenuator into the path of the beam.

    • In a photographic enlarger apparatus having a carriage operatively connected to a vertical column for movement thereon to a selected position, an alignment structure is provided for maintaining the carriage in three-dimensional alignment with the column. In one embodiment, a roller captively eccentrically journaled in the front of the carriage is biased against one face of the column to maintain the carriage in axial alignment with respect thereto. Further alignment of the carriage with respect to the column is provided by four wheels mounted in the back of the carriage to rotatably engage opposed channels formed in the rear of the column, two vertically aligned wheels being spring-biased against one channel and coacting with two vertically aligned fixed wheels riding in an opposite channel to urge the carriage into constant lateral alignment.

    • A camera construction is provided which is adapted to removably accommodate a cartridge of self-developing film. The cartridge presently available on the market includes a rectangularly shaped container having a self-contained battery and a stack of photographic sheets of like configuration disposed therein and arranged so that only the uppermost sheet may be exposed. Subsequent to exposure, the uppermost sheet is slidably removed from the container and discharged from the camera housing through a suitable opening formed therein. The invention in question relates primarily to the mechanism for automatically removing the uppermost sheet from the cartridge container and then to discharge same from the camera housing whereupon the self-developing process for the discharged sheet will occur within a predetermined time.
