    • In a control device for a vehicle on which is mounted a continuously variable transmission capable of mechanically locking a primary pulley at the time of a maximum gear ratio (maximum Low), an idle rotational speed is not always set high to increase a hydraulic pressure at the time of stopping the vehicle.     • A powertrain control apparatus that controls a powertrain including a lock-up clutch, which connects an engine, in which fuel supply may be cut off, directly to an automatic transmission. The control apparatus includes an output unit, a control unit, and a setting unit. The output unit outputs an instruction to lower engagement pressure for the lock-up clutch from a value at which the lock-up clutch is engaged to a value at which the lock-up clutch is disengaged. The control unit resumes the fuel supply to the engine when a predetermined lag time has elapsed since the instruction is output. The setting unit sets the lag time so that the lag time is shorter when a temperature of a combustion chamber of the engine is a first temperature than when the temperature of the combustion chamber of the engine is a second temperature which is higher than the first temperature.

    • A trouble checking apparatus for use with an automotive vehicle having sensors sensitive to a condition of the automotive vehicle for producing sensor signals indicative of parameters reflective of the sensed condition. The apparatus includes a control circuit responsive to the sensor signals for calculating a value corresponding to a setting of each of a plurality of means for controlling the automotive vehicle. A self-checking unit is connected to the control circuit for checking the sensor signals applied to the control circuit to provide a self-checking code indicative of a cause of automotive vehicle trouble when at least one of the sensor signals has an abnormal value. An external trouble checking unit is connected through a detachable connector to the self-checking unit for utilizing the sensor signals fed to the control circuit and the self-checking code to find a cause of automotive vehicle trouble.

    • Associating biometric information with passwords is disclosed. If biometric information received from a user matches stored biometric information, stored passwords associated therewith are retrieved. If these stored passwords are identical to access-enabling passwords, then the user is permitted to gain access associated with the access-enabling passwords. If the biometric information matches the stored biometric information but the stored passwords do not match the access-enabling passwords or are not present, then the user is requested to manually enter passwords, which are stored. If these stored passwords are identical to the access-enabling passwords, the user is permitted to gain access.
