摘要： A curable coating composition containing a carbamate-functional reactive additive is made by reacting a compound having at least one epoxy group and at least one branched alkyl group of 5 to 30 carbons with carbon dioxide, to produce a carbonate functional compound, and then with ammonia. The carbamate-functional reactive additive is incorporated into a curable coating composition. The coating composition may contain a polymer comprising active hydrogen-containing functionality other than carbamate and a curing agent having groups that are reactive with the polymer active hydrogen-containing functionality, wherein one or both of polymer and curing agent comprise groups that are reactive with the carbamate group of the carbamate-functional reactive additive. The coating composition is applied to an article and cured.

摘要： Disclosed is a curable coating composition that includes a compound having both hydroxy functionality and carbamate functionality of the structure ##STR1## wherein R is H or alkyl, a polyisocyanate crosslinking agents and an aminoplast crosslinking agent. The effective equivalents of the aminoplast crosslinking agent is equal to or less than the equivalents of carbamate functionality and the effective equivalents of polyisocyanate crosslinker is equal to or less than the equivalents of hydroxyl functionality. The carbamate-functional resin and the aminoplast crosslinking agent provide rheology control during the early part of the bake to cure an applied coating of the coating composition.

The polymers of the invention are formed from an epoxide-functional prepolymer having polyepoxide and extender segments. Each extender segment has at least one pendant hydroxyalkyl carbamate group. The prepolymer is reacted with an amine compound having at least one blocked primary amine group and at least one epoxide-reactive group. The primary amine group is unblocked and the resultant polymer is dispersed in water with the aid of a neutralizing acid.

摘要： An epoxy resin with amine functionality is manufactured continuously through a first reaction zone in which an epoxide-functional resin is made by ring-opening addition, a second reaction zone in which the resin is reacted with amine to make an epoxide-functional product, and a third reaction zone in which the epoxide functional product is reacted with amine to make the epoxy resin with amine functionality. In other embodiments, some amine may be added in the first reaction zone to produce an epoxide functional product, with elimination of the second reaction zone, or all of the amine reactant may be added in the first reaction zone to produce an amine functional product, with elimination of both the second and third reaction zones. Optionally, solvent may be removed in an evaporation zone and recycled into the continuous process and further zones may be included to incorporate crosslinker, additives, and to emulsify the resin.
