    • A belt-and-pulley continuously variable transmission comprises a driver pulley mounted on an input shaft and comprising a fixed conical member and a movable conical member, a driven pulley mounted on an output shaft and comprising a fixed conical member and a movable conical member, and a V-belt trained around the driver and driven pulleys. The movable conical members are axially movable to vary the effective diameters of the driver and driven pulleys for controlling the transmission ratio. The movable conical members are disposed on opposite sides of the V-belt. The transmission further includes a main servomechanism operatively coupled to the movable conical members for controlling axial movement of the movable conical members. As a feature of the servomechanism control, the transmission includes a first servomechanism for producing a prescribed amount of movement in a prescribed direction based on a prescribed signal, and a second servomechanism operatively connected to the first servomechanism and one of the driver and driven pulleys for applying the prescribed amount of movement produced by the first servomechanism to said one pulley.

    • A V belt (1; 201) for power transmission to be stretched over a driving pulley (100) and a driven pulley to effect power transmission therebetween, the V belt comprising a looped metallic belt (2), a plurality of V-shaped metallic blocks (3; 203) fitted on the metallic belt in a continuous manner along the length of the metallic belt, and a plurality of stoppers (5; 75) each respectively applied to one of the V-shaped blocks to cooperate with a concave groove (3b; 203b) of the V-shaped block so as to surround the metallic belt. At least a part (5d; 75d) of a base portion (5a; 75a) of the stopper is curved in a radial direction of the V belt to permit a resilient uniform opening of both side portions (5b; 75b) thereof in lateral directions (Y). The V belt further comprises a plurality of rollers (4) each respectively disposed between neighboring two of the V-shaped blocks; the V-shaped blocks include a number of V-shaped blocks (3x, 3y) falling into at least two types having their minimum longitudinal thicknesses (l.sub.2, l.sub.3) different from each other; and V-shaped blocks (3y) of at least either type each have a marking (3i, 3j; 3k) visually identifiable from outside of the V belt. The V belt (201) further includes a plurality of rollers (4) disposed between the V-shaped blocks, respectively, and the V-shaped blocks (3, 203) include a number of V-shaped blocks (203) of another type each having at either side of the V belt a convex part (203e) playing the role of a roller.

    • A V-belt transmission is provided which comprises V-groove pulleys and an endless belt surrounding the pulleys. A plurality of V-shaped belt engaging metallic members are positioned along the endless belt in the longitudinal direction thereof, each having a belt engaging surface for engaging the belt. A plurality of intermediate members are positioned between adjacent engaging members, with the intermediate members being positioned on the inside of the endless belt. Each of the engaging members includes a receiving surface for contacting the adjacent intermediate member, with at least one of the receiving surfaces being shaped to apply a force to the intermediate member in the longitudinal direction of the belt when the engaging member is brought into contact with the V-groove of the V-groove pulleys. The belt engaging surface of the engaging member is aligned with the mid-point of the height of the inclined side surfaces thereof which contact the V-groove of the V-groove pulleys. Further, the transmission includes resilient stopper members which hold the endless belt in a groove in the engaging member. The resilient stopper members have a size such that they contact adjacent stopper members in the longitudinal direction of the belt.

    • A transmission for a motor vehicle comprises an input shaft connected to the crank shaft of an engine, an output shaft connected to a driving wheel, a V-belt stepless variable speed gear provided between the input and output shafts for providing different gear ratios of the input and output shafts on a stepless basis, and an interlocking transmission gear provided between the input and output shafts parallel to the stepless variable speed gear which, when operated, provides a constant gear ratio of the input and output shafts. A hydraulically operated first clutch of a normally-closed type is provided on the input shaft for operating the stepless variable speed gear when it is connected, and a hydraulically operated second clutch of a normally open type is provided on the output shaft for operating the interlocking transmission gear when it is connected. The hydraulic cylinders of the first and second clutches are allowed to alternately communicate with a hydraulic pump and an oil tank through a control valve.

    • A link-type V-belt of relatively inflexible material including a first link having bifurcate ends and a second link having single ends which are pinned together by multiple pins in alternating fashion. Two pins are employed at each intersection between links and are semicylindrical for rolling contact between pins and for pivotal movement with the associated link. Broad transmission faces are associated with each link in inclined arrangement for conforming to a V-grooved pulley. Lubricant relief passages aid in the power transmission of the pulley by allowing lubricants to flow from the transmission faces of the belt. At the same time, the belt may be lubricated to further reduce internal frictions and sliding friction on associated pulleys. Informing the link having bifurcate ends, two link members may be positioned together with a spacer therebetween. Pins are calked in place to retain both the pin in position and the link members together. The uncalked pin of the two pins in each link connection is allowed to slide transversely to further reduce friction.

    • A control mechanism for a transmission of a vehicle having an internal combustion engine. The transmission includes a torque convertor, a coupling member, a gear-train, and an operation lever having a neutral position and at least three other positions. The torque convertor, the gear-train, and the coupling member are interposed in a system line for transmitting output torque of the engine to a driving wheel of the vehicle. The operation lever is arranged to operate the coupling member to connect the torque convertor to the gear-train by being moved from the neutral position to one of the other positions. The control mechanism includes a coupling-preventing mechanism operatively associated with the coupling member for preventing coupling when a throttle valve of the engine is in an idling position and the operation lever is moved from the neutral position to one of the other positions. The control mechanism also includes a change-over mechanism associated with the coupling-preventing mechanism for selectively changing-over the coupling-preventing mechanism from an operative state preventing coupling to a rest state permitting coupling whereupon the coupling member connects the torque convertor to the gear-train even though the throttle valve is in an idling position.
