    • A thread loop taker device for a zigzag sewing machine having a needle whose position is controlled by electronically stored data which cooperates with the thread loop taker device to thereby produce zigzag stitches. The thread loop taker device comprises a bobbin carrier, a rotational cylindrical member for supporting the bobbin carrier therein; a loop taker coaxial with and about the cylindrical member for rotation therewith, the loop taker having a beak extending from one end and in the direction of the rotation around a portion of the cylindrical member for catching a thread loop formed by the needle; cams rotating with the cylindrical member and engaging the opposite end of the loop taker for rotating the beak relative to the cylindrical member; and a pulse motor drivable in response to a change in the position of the needle so that, when this driving is transmitted to move the cams, the loop taker is actuated. Thus, the beak rotates relative to the cylindrical member in response to a change in the position of the needle during rotation of the cylindrical member.

    • A thread tightening device for a sewing machine of the type having a main shaft, a vertically reciprocable needle bar with a needle carrying an upper thread, a loop taker and a drive shaft for driving the loop taker and a feed dog; the thread tightening device includes a group of pattern cams operatively connected to the main shaft, pattern selecting device and an arrangement for controlling the vertical movement of the feed dog. This arrangement comprises a control cam and a rotatable shaft, the control cam being slidably axially mounted on the rotatable shaft but not turnable with respect to the shaft. The thread tightening device also includes an element arranged for vertical reciprocating movement in a timed relation with the feed dog, which element engages a lower thread during the stitching operation of the sewing machine. A thread tension adjusting device is provided in the machine, which comprises an adjusting cam operatively connected to the pattern cams and a linkage arrangement which is operatively connected to the adjusting cam and to the control cam to displace the control cam in the axial direction in response to a set position of the adjusting cam to thereby adjusting lower thread tension in accordance with the respective pattern cam.

    • An embroidering position setting device and method of operation thereof for an embroidering sewing machine are described. The embroidering sewing machine is capable of storing pattern data in a memory for a plurality of embroidery patterns which can be selectively read out to operate a stitch forming device to form the stitches of a selected pattern or patterns on a cloth to be stitched. An embroidering frame has a cloth extended thereon to be embroidered and is connected to an X-Y drive mechanism, said cloth having a mark located at an optional position for representing a reference embroidering position of the cloth. Jog keys are selectively operated to operate said X-Y drive mechanism thereby to shift said embroidering frame so that said reference embroidering position mark of the cloth may be located at the position under said machine needle in vertical alignment therewith. The position register key is operated to store said position of the reference embroidering position mark in an embroidering position memory as the reference embroidering position data. This position of the reference embroidering position mark is indicated together with crossed lines on a display which is operative in response to operation of said position register key. A pattern selecting device is then operated to select at least one of the embroidery patterns from said pattern memory, said selected embroidery pattern being stored in a memory (RAM) and being simultaneously indicated on said display with the center thereof being located at the center of said crossed lines.

    • An upper thread carried by a vertically reciprocating needle is drawn from a bobbin through a tensioning device, a supply device and a take-up lever. A predetermined amount of the upper thread is first supplied by actuating the supply device, while applying no tension thereto. An additional amount of the upper thread is then supplied by operation of the take-up lever with a predetermined tension being given thereto. The additional amount is detected by a sensor. The supply device includes a one-way clutch for allowing the upper thread to travel in a predetermined direction which, however, may not be conveyed from the needle side when the supply device is made operative. A CPU controls the amount of thread first supplied by the supply device which will always be smaller than an amount actually required for producing a stitch, resulting in an additional amount to be supplied supplemental in cooperation with the tensioning device.
