    • A heterogeneous computer system, a heterogeneous input/output system and a data back-up method for the systems. An I/O subsystem A for open system and an I/O subsystem B for a mainframe are connected by a communication unit. In order to back up the data from at least a disk connected to the I/O subsystem B in a MT library system and in order to permit the mainframe to access the data in the I/O subsystem B, the I/O subsystem A includes a table for assigning a vacant memory address in a local subsystem to the memory of the I/O subsystem for an open system. A request of variable-length record format received from the mainframe is converted into a fixed-length record format for the subsystem B. The disk designated according to the table is accessed, and the data thus obtained is sent to the mainframe and backed up in the back-up system.

    • An information service system including a plurality of receiving stations and information service facilities.     • On ad hoc networks in which connection relationships among communication terminals constantly change, the processing load increases when authentication is performed each time a connection relationship changes. According to this invention, when communication terminals possess the same common key, mutual authentication is conducted with that common key, and when communication terminals do not possess the same common key, mutual authentication is conducted with a public key. Communication terminals that conducted mutual authentication exchange and retain a common key that they selected and common keys received from other communication terminals. When neither communication terminal possesses a common key at authentication, one terminal creates a common key and distributes it to the other terminal, and when one terminal has a common key it creates that common key and distributes it to the other terminal. Further, a common key possessed by a communication terminal corresponding to a relay node is broadcast periodically.

    • A method and apparatus for carrying out limited encipherment broadcast by generating a cipher key obtained from destination information added to service information are provided. An information service station transmits to each receiving station a random number, destination information for designating a destination station, and enciphered data obtained by enciphering service information by a common key generating by using the random number and destination information. An IC card at each receiving station which is provided in advance with a key generating function from the information service station, generates the common key by using the received random number and destination information only when it is confirmed from the destination information that the receiving station has a data redeption right, and deciphers the enciphered data by using the common key to obtain the original service information. The processing time required for generating the common key can be reduced because of a small amount of data to be used.
