摘要： A method of sewing a blindstitch hem is disclosed in which the plain hem fold in a garment is introduced wrong side up to a sewing machine of the type having a loop taker moving on a vertical axis located in front of the stitching point and with a thread carrying needle and a latch needle arranged side-by-side laterally of the line of feed of the sewing machine. Sewing machine fittings are disclosed which serve particularly advantageously in producing the blindstitch hem of this invention, including a throat plate fitted with a thread manipulating device for assisting in the concatenation of thread from the thread carrying needle of the latch needle on each stitch, and a latch needle which is easily manufacturable and serves with particular effectiveness in carrying out the method of this invention.

The cross-section of the pin when considered at a right angle to the lenthwise direction thereof and the inner cross-section of the bobbin sleeve, also as considered at a right angle to the lengthwise direction thereof, at least where the sleeve and the pin engage one another, are so selected as to make possible a sidewise movement of the bobbin relating to the pin and at least where the sleeve and the pin engage one another, the one cross-section is circular while the other cross-section has a shape which is substantially different from a circular shape.

摘要： This disclosure relates to needle guards for rotary loop takers in sewing machines and has for its purpose prevention of interference between the needle and the loop seizing beak of the rotary loop taker during the sewing operation. A needle guard is provided which is substantially annular and open ended and is resiliently supported within the body of the loop taker. One leg of the needle guard is disposed in the region of the loop seizing beak of the loop taker and in the region of the needle path so that the needle if proceeding toward the loop seizing beak upon penetration of the fabric, will be deflected away from the loop seizing beak and toward the center of the loop taker body. An adjustable anchoring means is provided for the one leg of the needle guard for adjusting the relative position of said one leg relative to the loop seizing beak. The needle guard itself is formed from a resilient wire such that it may be readily snapped in and out of the loop taker body for easy replacement if warranted by unusual wear conditions.

摘要： A bobbin for a lock stitch sewing machine is disclosed having on one flange an annular protuberance concentric with the center of rotation of the bobbin and having on opposite sides of said one flange a pair of annular friction surfaces between which friction surfaces a normal force may be applied to generate friction resistant to rotation of said bobbin, one of said annular friction surfaces being carried on the said raised annular protuberance and the other of said annular friction surfaces extending radially outward beyond the radius of the other of said pair of bobbin flanges. A set of bobbins each having the raised annular protuberance at differing radii may be utilized individually in a lockstitch sewing machine to provide the exact degree of bobbin thread tension required when utilized in a bobbin case wherein bobbin thread tension is achieved by resisting bobbin rotation by pressing a hold down arm against the raised annular protuberance.
