    • The invention relates to a switch and to a method for transporting and installing such a switch, which is equipped with longitudinal sleepers, the sleeper sections (2, 3) of which are or can be coupled in a flexurally stiff manner by means of a connecting device (16) embedded in the sleeper heads (4) so that the switch can be folded for space-saving transport. The divided longitudinal sleepers are oriented relative to each other and installed in such a way that the joints of the longitudinal sleepers are aligned along a straight line, which thus can serve as a rotational axis for folding up a side of the switch. The joints aligned on the rotational axis act similarly to a hinge band so that complete switch segments, such as a switch end part or the core region, can be folded along the line.

    • A switch cross tie is made in a mold having a base plate formed with a plurality of holes in a predetermined pattern corresponding to a particular type of concrete switch cross tie by first overlying the entire base plate of a mold with a covering sheet provided with markings in a pattern corresponding to that of the holes needed for another particular type of concrete cross ties. This covering sheet overlies and blocks all the holes formed in the base plate and it is fixed in place atop the base plate. Then the operator or a computer-guided drill press cuts through the covering sheet and into the base plate at each of the markings to form thereat a respective new hole. Each such new hole is fitted with an anchor, and the mold is filled with concrete over and around the anchors with the covering sheet blocking all the holes other than the new holes. It is important that the covering sheet be sufficiently strong to inhibit entry of concrete through it into any of the holes other than the new holes. The concrete is allowed to cure or set and then the set concrete and the anchors are removed from the mold as a tie with anchors imbedded in it at locations corresponding to the new holes.

    • A special trackwork fastener (10) for supporting a railroad rail and attaching it to a support structure. The trackwork fastener (10) is modularly constructed and includes a top plate (20), resilient end portions (12) and (16), optional resilient center portion (14), and securing elements (18). The special trackwork fastener (10) has the versatility to be used in a large number of special trackwork situations such as turnouts, crossovers, crossings and switches or the like, which require a variety of lengths of trackwork fastener (10). The vertical compression stiffness and adjustability in length is provided by two opposed end portions (12),(16) and an optional center portion (14) which is molded or cut to length such that the portions collectively match the length of the top plate (20) and therefore the top plate (20) is fully supported along its length. The elastomer portions can be cored out to provide the desired compression stiffness.
