摘要： A hand instrument and method for use by a surgeon to target the appropriate entry point and trajectory on bony tissue through which an instrument, such as a nail, pin, screw, rod, wire, drill bit, or other implant is passed. Imbedded within the instrument is at least one relatively radio-opaque target which allows the user to predict with the use of an x-ray or fluoroscopic imaging device the placement of said instrument or implant before drilling it into place with the use of an x-ray or fluoroscopic imaging device. By manipulating the device around the axis of the guide piece, the surgeon can predict the placement of the instrument or implant without iterative insertion and removal of the instrument or implant itself.

摘要： An apparatus for positioning a prosthesis in a bone includes a body, first and second clamps, a depth gauge and a guide. The first clamp is coupled to the body. The depth gage is coupled to the body and is movable relative thereto generally perpendicular to the shaft of the bone. The second clamp can be selectively engaged with and disengaged from the depth gage. The second clamp is movable with the depth gage and is also moveable in a direction generally parallel to the axis of the bone. The guide is used to determine the proper rotational orientation of the apparatus. The first clamp is then secured to the bone. The second clamp is secured to a trial prosthesis and is engaged with the depth gage as the trial is inserted into the bone. When the proper insertion depth is reached, the second clamp is secured to the depth gage. The joint is then reduced and the range of motion checked. The depth and rotational orientation may be adjusted as needed. The second clamp is released from the trial, the trial is removed and the prosthesis is inserted in the bone and secured to the second clamp.

摘要： A method for installing spine-stabilization components comprises directing a long plastic flexible tool through a sublaminar space of a human spine vertebrae inside the spinal canal. Such tool enters the sublaminar space of a particular one of the human spine vertebrae posteriorly from the intervertebral gap with an adjacent vertebrae. It exits the sublaminar space of the particular one of the human spine vertebrae posteriorly from the intervertebral gap with another opposite-side adjacent vertebrae. A suture is threaded through an eye of the tool. The suture is pulled back through the sublaminar space by withdrawing the long plastic flexible tool. The suture is detached from the long plastic flexible tool. A pulled-through part of the suture is attached to a spinal-fixation wire or cable. The suture is then usable as a pilot-line to draw the spinal-fixation wire or cable through the sublaminar space. The spinal-fixation wire or cable is used to anchor a spinal-fixation system.
